George Clooney isn't mincing words when it comes to his opinion on President Joe Biden.

The 63-year-old actor recently gave his two cents on the commander in chief, speaking directly about Biden's choice to step down from his 2024 bid for the White House in order to make room for Vice President Kamala Harris.

While speaking at a press conference during the Venice Film Festival this weekend, where he and Brad Pitt were promoting their new film Wolfs, Clooney made a bold claim about Biden's "selfless" actions.

"The person who should be applauded is the President who did the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington," Clooney said during the press conference, per PEOPLE.

In a video shared by Variety editor Elsa Keslassy on X (formerly Twitter), Pitt, 60, could be seen clapping along with the rest of the room after Clooney made his assertion.

The ER alum then continued, "All of the machinations that got us there, none of that’s going to be remembered, and it shouldn’t be. What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who did the hardest thing to do. You know we’ve seen it all around the world, and for someone to say, 'I think there’s a better way forward,' he gets all the credit, and that’s really the truth."

Clooney's comments in Venice on Sunday, Sept. 1 come months after he publicly called on the president to withdraw from the race in an essay for the New York Times titled, 'I Love Joe Biden, But We Need a New Nominee.'"

In the essay, Clooney, after labeling himself as a "lifelong democrat," insisted, "Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024."
