New Girl Scout Troop launches in Painted Post, accepting signups. How to get involved.

Local Girl Scouts recently learned how much work goes into lifesaving measures at an event held at the Beartown Road Alliance Church.

The event was among the first for a new troop that just launched in the Corning and Painted Post areas.

Merri and Emeline, members of the newly formed Girl Scout Troop 79G in Painted Post, each said they had a great time and learned a lot at the event.

Deborah Brewster, a Scout Master with Boy Scouts of America, which is rebranding as Scouting America, recently started Girl Scouts Troop 79G. The group meets weekly at the church. Brewster wants to get the word out to more girls, ages 6-18, about the great opportunities the troop offers.

“We want to reach youth. We want to give them an opportunity to have a great time,” Brewster said. “What I love about this group is the kids are involved. Currently we have some girls in the troop, and we are looking to get the word out to bring in even more.”

Brewster said Girl Scout Troop 79G is part of a joint troop, with Boy Scouts Troop 79, that meets at Beartown Road Alliance Church at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Beartown Road Alliance Church when school is in session.

The new troop is hoping to give girls in the area a chance to participate in scouting activities.

“The Boy Scouts Troop 79 has been in existence for decades,” Brewster said. “There has been no girls troop in Painted Post and very few options in the area. We are partnering alongside the Boy Scout troop at Beartown Road Alliance Church, but we will also be able to have our own meeting and do our own activities.”

Brewster said families interested in their daughter becoming a member of Girl Scout Troop 79G can go to BeAScout.org or email girl troop at 79gscouting@gmail.com for more information.
