Is there any textile more versatile or prone to experimentation than denim? Every decade and season seems to welcome a new interpretation of the material, from varying jean silhouettes to new standards on how to style it (remember when wearing denim-on-denim was considered a fashion faux pas?). Celebrity street style is often a telling temperature-check on which direction the fad is heading. If we consider recent sightings of Emily Ratajkowski’s bunny-printed denim skirt and Anne Hathaway’s half-denim-half-suit, then it’s clear that the needle continues to point toward innovation. But, as Gisele Bündchen proved today, there’s also nothing wrong with going back to the basics.

The supermodel brought the denim skirt trend back down to earth today in New York City. En route to the View’s studios, she cut a stylish figure in an outfit that nailed transitional winter-to-spring dressing.

The star of the show was Bündchen’s flared jean midi skirt, which featured a slightly asymmetrical high-low hem with raw fraying at the edges. Featuring a classic light blue wash with subtle fading at the thighs, she cozied the look up by tucking in a black turtleneck sweater and cinching it all at the waist with a black belt with gold hardware.

To coordinate, Bündchen added a quilted denim YSL bag, black leather knee-high boots with a pointed toe and stiletto heels, and a pair of thick gold hoop earrings. Finally, she finished off with a long camel coat.
