GM's NACS Adapter Lets Its EVs Use Tesla ChargersGM
  • General Motors has released a charging adapter that's compatible with Tesla's proprietary North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug.

  • GM's NACS adapter is compatible with all of its EVs, which now gain access to nearly 18,000 Tesla Superchargers.

  • The adapter costs $225 and can be purchased through the mobile app for each respective GM brand.

A whole bunch of automakers are preparing to sell new EVs with Tesla's proprietary charging port, which is known as the North American Charging Standard—NACS, for short. However, the transition from an alternative CCS-type port to NACS is a work in progress. The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 became the first non-Tesla model sold in the United States to have NACS right out of the box. Meanwhile, an CCS-to-NACS adapter is a short-term solution, and General Motors has finally released an adapter of its own.

GM's new NACS adapter is compatible with every one of its electric vehicles, including the discontinued Chevy Bolt EV. A GM spokesperson told Car and Driver that some Bolts may require a software update to ensure they can work seamlessy with Tesla's Supercharger network. Now, the Bolt and GM's other electric vehicles, from the Chevy Blazer EV to the Cadillac Lyriq to the GMC Sierra EV, can replenish their batteries at nearly 18,000 Tesla Superchargers. Overall, GM says that its customers have access to over 231,800 public chargers in the U.S., including DC fast-chargers and Level 2 chargers.

GM says its working with multiple suppliers to build the NACS adapter, which sells for $225. Earlier this year, Ford released its own NACS adapter, which could be ordered free of charge for customers who were enrolled in Ford's BlueOval Charge Network. After a certain point, the adapter cost $230.

While GM hasn't said anything about offering a complimentary adapter, it did say the device can be purchased through the mobile app for each of its respective brands. Those same apps enable users to locate Tesla Superchargers, start charging, and pay for a charging session. GM has now made the adapters available in the U.S., and it plans to do the same in Canada later this year.
