Golden Retriever Dad’s Parody of Letting a Dog Sleep in Bed Is So Spot-on

If you're a dog owner, chances are that you've let your dog sleep in your bed with you at least once. Sleeping with a dog is a lot like sleeping with a toddler; they tend to move all over, hog up all of the space, and have no qualms about getting into your personal space. Dog dad Johnathan shared a video on Wednesday, July 10th of all of the different sleeping positions that happen when you sleep with a dog, and they are spot on.

Johnathan is dad to one of the most famous dogs on the internet, Teddy the Golden Retriever. While Teddy has his own very cool doghouse and bed that he can sleep in, just like most dogs, he prefers to sleep in his dad's bed. Watch and count how many of these sleeping positions you find yourself in when you let your dog sleep in bed with you!

My dog hasn't ever slept in our bed, but I am familiar with all of these sleeping positions since my daughter complains about them because the dog sleeps with her! In less than a day, Teddy's video has already racked up over half a million views and has almost 1,500 comments. People could relate! Commenter @Jo shared, "So cute! Try a Saint Bernard - her name is Teeny and she weighs 204 pounds LOL!" That's like sleeping with another person! @DogLove said it best, "So true! They always have to have the best spots and we get the leftover spot!"

Should Dogs Sleep in Our Beds?

There's a big debate between dog owners about whether or not dogs should be allowed to sleep in our beds with us. For me, it's a big no. But my daughter now has a hard time sleeping without the dog in her bed. Many think that our fur babies should sleep in their own dog beds or be crate trained to sleep there. On the other hand, many people couldn't sleep without their fur babies snuggled up next to them.

In another Pet Helpful I was surprised by just how many people sleep with their pets, "About 62 percent of American dog and cat owners keep their animals in the house at night. Of those, about half the cats and one-third of the dogs spend the night in the bed, according to a survey from the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association." That's a lot of pets sleeping with their humans!

One reason many people don't let their dogs in bed with them is because of hygiene. Dogs are dirty. Even though our puppy is clean and we wipe her down with doggy wipes each morning and night, that's not enough to ensure that she doesn't get dirt (or worse) in bed. Not to mention having dog hair everywhere!

There's no concrete, black or white answer to whether or not a dog should be allowed to sleep in their humans' beds. There are pros and cons that go with both views. It's a very personal choice and up to each and every one of us to decide what works best for our families and fur babies.
