Golden Retriever Dumped and Abandoned by Breeders Is About to Get the Sweetest Surprise
More and more dog owners are turning to animal shelters and rescues to meet their new BFF, but there are still lots of irresponsible breeders out there. Some skip the research and genetic testing before breeding their dogs, while others fail to provide their dogs with the space, resources, and love needed to thrive. As much as it hurts to think about, there are also some breeders who disregard parent dogs as soon as they're done having puppies.
Sadly, this was the case for one family of Golden Retrievers from Macedonia. After a young dog named Bobbi was flown to the UK to meet his new family, his dad was found abandoned in the streets back in Macedonia. The rescue that helped Bobbi find his forever home reached out to ask if his family would be open to adopting his dad, too, and the quest to bring him home began.
In a long-awaited August 20 update, Bobbi's owner shared the good news about the retired papa. He's finally off the street!
What a relief! This sweet guy seems like the perfect family dog, and he's going to be the best addition to Bobbi's family in the UK. Dad doesn't have a proper name yet, but he's officially free from his life as a breeding dog and as a stray dog. He can finally assume his true role as a beloved pet and dad!

He's soaking up every moment of attention and affection he can get, even during his much-needed trip to the groomer's. Fortunately, everyone seems happy to oblige, and this sweet Golden Retriever is finally getting the adoration he deserves. Just wait until he meets his forever family!
Of course, the sweetest detail about his new family is that it includes his son, Bobbi. It's safe to say that Bobbi's viewers are all holding their breath waiting for his dad to come home, but the occasion is closer than ever now that his quarantine time is complete.
Adopting Your Dog's Relative
While there's no doubt that Bobbi and his dad were meant to find one another again, it's all too normal for a dog owner to hesitate before adopting their dog's relative. Will there be competition between the dogs? Will they even recognize each other?
No two canine family reunions are the same, but dogs are often accepting of blood relatives. However, the jury is still out about whether this is because dogs tend to be friendly or because they truly recognize dogs they're related to. Studies seem to show that puppies can recognize their mom and littermate siblings based on scent alone, while older dogs tend to only recognize their mother. Don't worry--Mom recognizes her babies, too!
It will be fascinating to see whether Bobbi and his dad seem to recognize that they're related, but there's no doubt that the former street dog is on his way to the best possible life. He'll be flying to the UK before we know it!
