Great America's newest roller coaster will have a 'beyond-vertical' 171-foot drop

Local thrill ride enthusiasts can look forward to a new roller coaster at Great America next year.

Six Flags Great America announced that Wrath of Rakshasa will debut in 2025 at the park located over the Wisconsin border in Gurnee, Illinois.

The park's announcement said the roller coaster will have the world's steepest drop with the most inversions on a dive coaster, 171 feet at 96 degrees and five inversions.

Wrath of Rakshasa, a record-breaking dive roller coaster, will open at Six Flags Great America in 2025.

According to coasterpedia, a diving roller coaster is a coaster that has vertical drops that hold the train at the top of the drop for a few seconds; these types of coasters also have wider passenger trains than usual. Wrath of Rakshasa's 96-degree drop is described by Six Flags as "beyond-vertical," and each train is wide enough to seat seven passengers across.

“Six Flags Great America continues to push the limits of innovation and thrills, as we introduce the world’s steepest drop with the most inversions on a dive coaster,” Great America's president, John Krajnak, said in a press release. “Wrath of Rakshasa joins our already impressive lineup of record-breaking roller coasters and attractions at the park, demonstrating our commitment to delivering cutting-edge experiences for our guests."

The new roller coaster will be in the County Fair section of the park across from Demon.
