Hamlin volleyball team improves to 8-0 with a Northeast Conference victory over Tiospa Zina

AGENCY VILLAGE — It's been a good start to the fall sports season for Hamlin High School.

Not only is the school's football team ranked second in Class 9AA with a 4-0 start, the Chargers' volleyball team improved to 8-0 on Monday night with a 3-0 (25-0. 25-10, 25-10) Northeast Conference victory over Tiospa Zina.

Addie Neuendorf led Hamlin in the match with four aces, 16 kills and 13 digs. Sisters Issie, Addie and Jo Steffensen contributed 33 assists, nine kills and 12 digs, respectively.

Cadence Moeller also tallied three assists for Hamlin.

Here's some highlights from other area high school volleyball matches on Saturday and Monday.

Monday

  • Colman-Egan 3, Madison 1 — The Hawks (5-1) won 25-17, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 with 17 kills and 19 digs from Brynlee Landis, 22 assists and four aces from Finley Luze, 21 digs from Presley Luze, 14 kills by Elaina Rhode and 24 assists and 14 digs from Kaylee Voelker. Madison's leaders included Karley Theede, 27 assists; Lydia Nelson, eight kills, nine digs and two solo and three block assists; Jaya Engels nine kills and nin digs; Grace Feige, 11 kills; and Kate Johnson, nine digs.

  • Other Matches — Herreid-Selby Area defeated McLaughlin 3-0 (25-6, 25-9 and 25-15) and Britton-Hecla topped Langford Area 3-1 (25-18, 26-24, 20-25 and 25-20).

Saturday

  • Clark-Willow Lake Tourney — Third-rated Class B Hitchcock-Tulare (11-0) posted four 2-0 wins and won the tourney, while helping head coach Jordan Opp collect his 300th win. Lila Johnson made 51 asssists and Gracyn Bixler 36 for the Patriots. Katelyn Schroeder had 26-plus kills, Cambree Hoekman 32-plus digs and Rebecca Huizenga six block assists.Clark-Willow Lake went 3-1, posting three 2-0 wins before falling to Hitchcock-Tulare in the Gold Division championship. Kate Larson made four aces and 40 digs, Shay Michalski 23-plus kills, Sami Brenden 79 assists and Shelby Begeman seven blocks in the tourney.Aberdeen Christian went 3-1 and won the Silver Division in the tourney. Payton Skarin and Arianna Johnson each made nine aces, Johnson 30 kills, Jolie Fogarty 29 kills, Sawyer Schwan 83 assists and Alexis Isakson 65 digs for the Knights.

  • North Central Invite — Ipswich (8-1) went 4-0 in the North Central Invite with Jaydin Stiles making 14 aces, Josie Knutson 60 assists, Reaghan Bowers 33 assists, Marley Guthmiller 51 kills, Kaylin Onkin 30 kills and Brianna Geditz 60 digs.

  • Arlington Tourney — No. 2 Class B Warner (13-1) went 4-1 in the tourney, suffering its only loss to No. 4 Burke 2-1. Libby Scepaniak produced 78 assists, Kyleigh Schopp 60 kills, Reagan Wood 60 assists and Jordyn Jensen 67 digs. Schopp recorded her 1,000th career kill in the tourney.Elkton-Lake Benton went 3-2 with Malyha Stegers tallying 100 assists, Andrea Renkly 34 kills and 47 digs and Charlie Thooft 32-plus digs.

  • Other Matches — No. 5 Class B Northwestern swept Madison 3-0 with four aces and 14 kills by Ashley Haven, nine kills by Anna Brumfield, seven kills by Breelyn Satter, 30 assists and eight digs by Ella Boekelheide and 14 digs by Paytron Grandpre.Hamlin swept Aberdeen Roncalli 3-0 with three aces and nine kills by Addie Steffensen, 33 assists by Issie Steffensen, 15 kills by Addie Neuendorf, two aces and 13 digs by Jayci Trowbridge and 13 digs by Jo Steffensen. Maddie Huber had 21 assists, McKenna O'Keefe 11 kills and 15 digs and Ava Hanson seven kills for Roncalli.Aberdeen Central split two matches out west, losing to Spearfish 3-1 (27-29, 25-22, 31-29, 25-21) is a match that started Friday night before being suspended due to a bomb threat (it was completed Saturday morning) and beating Sturgis 3-0 (25-5, 25-14, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.
