As Harris, Trump debate, Libertarian presidential candidate to watch from Indianapolis

While former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris go head-to-head in a presidential debate this evening, the Libertarian candidate for president will be watching in Indianapolis.

Chase Oliver, the 38-year-old Libertarian presidential candidate from Atlanta, is hosting a debate watch party this evening at the Libertarian Party of Indiana’s headquarters where he will provide live reactions to the debate.

In a news release last week, Oliver criticized ABC, which is airing the debate, for not including other candidates.

“As we see Donald Trump and Kamala Harris debate on ABC, recognize that this debate is an incomplete one that doesn’t tell the full story of this election,” Oliver said in a statement.

Oliver’s campaign says he is the first openly gay candidate for president to be nominated by a major political party. He is also scheduled to attend a candidate event Wednesday evening with the Indy Rainbow Chamber of Commerce.

Hoosier Libertarians are running in several races this November. Earlier this year, the Indiana Libertarian Party nominated candidates at their state convention, including Donald Rainwater for governor and Andrew Horning for U.S. Senate. The party also has candidates running in all nine Indiana congressional districts.

There is room for Libertarian success in Indiana: Four years ago Donald Rainwater was the most successful Libertarian candidate to run for office in at least 20 years, earning 11% of the vote.
