“Harry Potter ”alum Bonnie Wright hopes her son will be a Slytherin 'but I also can't project'

The actress, who played Ginny Weasley, hopes to introduce her son to the franchise when he turns 5.

Just because the Sorting Hat waits for kids to turn 11, doesn’t mean Bonnie Wright has to.

The Harry Potter alum, who famously appeared as Ginny Weasley throughout the franchise's eight-film run, has already decided which house her 11-month old son would belong to at Hogwarts. In fact, the actress has already sorted her entire family.

"I think my husband is a Hufflepuff," Wright recently told PEOPLE of her partner, Andrew Lococo, adding, "He doesn't quite understand the importance of him being sorted. I've sorted him in Hufflepuff."

As for their son, Wright has high hopes that he’ll be donning green robes at 11 years old.

“I thought Elio was a Hufflepuff, but I'm not sure now,” she shared. “I'm hoping he'll be a Slytherin, but I also can't project. I've got to let him be himself."

In September 2023, the couple welcomed their first child together, Elio Ocean Wright Lococo. While their bundle of joy is still a tad too young to hop aboard the Hogwarts Express, the actress admits that she looks forward to introducing him to the Wizarding World in the next few years.

"People have done 5 years old [which] seems to be a good age to start reading the books and showing bits of the films," Wright said. "I'm counting down my four years now."

She added, "I've got to wait, but I can't wait. I mean, I love having them read out loud. I love the audiobooks. So let's hope he's a fan."

In the meantime, Wright has been re-immersing herself in the franchise’s magic. On Sept. 1, she surprised fans by making an appearance at a Back to Hogwarts Celebration, which saw fans gather in New York City's Grand Central Terminal for the ceremonial departure of the Hogwarts Express. The actress is also looking forward to watching the Harry Potter franchise expand with the upcoming HBO series, which is currently aiming for a 2026 premiere date. As Wright sees it, the expanded runtime of one book per season means more time for the finer details to shine.

"My biggest hope as a fan of the books is that they're able to just include more of the world that we know and love," she told the outlet. "With TV shows, you've got hours unlike movies. I'm hoping as a fan that I get to see some of the bits in the books that just didn't make the cut for our films because they had to be shorter.”

Wright has previously been vocal about her disappointment with the way Ginny’s characterization was handled in the movies.

“A lot of the scenes of every character were chopped down from the book to the film,” she noted during a 2023 conversation with Michael Rosenbaum. “So you didn't really have as much to show in the film. Sometimes that was a little disappointing because there were parts of the character that just didn't get to come through because there weren't the scenes to do that. That made me feel a bit anxious or just frustrated, I guess."
