Heart's Ann Wilson Says the 'Worst Is Over' After Finishing Cancer Treatment: 'Chemo Is No Joke'

The Heart rocker will hit the road for a number of rescheduled concerts in 2025

Heart rocker Ann Wilson is offering fans an update on her cancer journey as she prepares her return to the stage.

Wilson, 74, revealed that she has finished chemotherapy treatments and is doing “absolutely fine,” nearly three months after announcing she’d been diagnosed with cancer and would take the rest of the year off.

“I know lots of you have been wondering how I’ve been doing. So I thought it’d be best if you heard this straight from me,” the musician said in a voice-recorded statement shared to social media on Wednesday, Sept. 25. “I’m doing absolutely fine now but it’s been, to put it mildly, a lot. Chemo is no joke. It takes a lot out of a person. And then there’s that two weeks of waiting around for test results, a form of mental torture.”

The “Barracuda” singer said that, “luckily for me, when the results finally came, they were the good kind!”

“I’m so excited to share with you that I’m now finished with chemo and I’m officially ready to get ready for the tour in 2025!” she continued. “There’s maintenance going forward but I’m told the side effects are much less severe. The worst is over and I’m thankful for the efficacy of this poison — but it’s more than welcome to get the f--- out of my body now.”

Wilson added that she’s “immensely grateful” for the support she’s received from fans over the past few months, and stressed the importance of regular check-ups.

“My story has a happy ending due in part to early detection,” she said. “My advice? Get checked regularly. I love you all and I’ll see you very, very soon. There’s much to celebrate.”

The rocker announced in July that she’d recently undergone surgery for cancer, and as a result, was taking the rest of the year off in order to undergo preventative chemotherapy.

She and her sister Nancy Wilson, 70, were scheduled to tour with Heart from July through December, but the dates have since been rescheduled to 2025.

Heart last played a series of North American concert dates in April and late May.

The band, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, reunited in 2019 after a three-year hiatus, and celebrated 50 years as a group in 2023.

“Back when I started, I didn’t even believe I’d live to be 30,” Wilson told PEOPLE in 2022. “In your early 20s, you just go, ‘I’ll never get old.’ I never dreamed it would go on 50 years. For me, it’s the bomb. When it’s all going right, there’s nothing like it.”
