Heat is on: Hottest days ever recorded at the Jersey Shore

June has been hot, with some locations registering temperatures of 100 degrees. So far this year, June 22 and 23 have been the hottest days of the year according to data from Rutgers Weather Network.

Wall Township registered a high of 99 on June 23. Berkeley Township, Moorestown and Hammonton registered each a high of 100 on June 22 (it also reached 100 on June 23 in Berkeley Township).

Here's a look at the hottest days at the Jersey Shore.

What is the hottest month in New Jersey?

Climate data shows that in the past three decades, July is the hottest temperature on average. From 1992 through 2021, the average high temperature for July has been 86. The average high temperature for August is 84, and it's 81 for June.

What's the hottest temperature recorded in New Jersey?

The maximum temperature registered in New Jersey was 110, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's State Climate Extremes Committee. The extreme thermometer reading took place in Old Bridge Township's Runyon Watershed on July 10, 1936.

Which have been the hottest days at the Jersey Shore?

The official record on New Jersey climate comes primarily from stations in Newark, Trenton and Atlantic City. Readings at the Atlantic City Marina, a few miles away from Ocean County, provide the most accurate climate information for the Shore, said Mike Silva, lead meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

But there were other places in the Shore region that experienced even hotter temperatures, according data from NOAA.

  • 106 in Marlboro on July 9, 1936

  • 106 in Long Branch on July 9, 1936

  • 106 around Egg Harbor Township on June 28, 1969

  • 102 in Cape May on July 22 and 23, 2011.
