Henry County hosts poll worker training session

HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) Henry County is taking steps to make sure their primary elections run smoothly.

The county’s probate office trained about 100 poll workers today to ensure they are prepared to handle ballots and election-related procedures.

The poll workers will be located throughout Henry county’s 16 voting locations, including 14 in-person, one absentee and one provisional location.

Probate judge and commission chairman David Money said the poll worker training ensures that elections in the county are open, fair and honest.

The training comes as Democrats and Republicans get ready to cast their ballots on Super Tuesday, now six days away. Alabama is one of 16 states holding elections that day.

Those in attendance also included election inspectors and student interns.

“Voting is so important,” said inspector Hayley Norterly. “It’s your right to voice your opinion for your area, whether it be as small as a city or county election or as [big] as a national election.”

One intern, Abbeville Christian Academy student Anna Grace Blalock, said she is excited to be volunteering her time to help in the election.

“I think it’s important to start young, because when my generation gets older, we have an understanding of how it works,” she said.

Money said interns, inspectors, and other staff members are a huge part of the electoral process.

“We’re so thankful for the hundred or so people who are here today, and the ones that we’ll have next Tuesday,” he said. “It could not happen without our poll workers.”
