HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nauset football improves to 2-0 with win over Lunenburg

The Nauset football team looks strong after two weeks, and Lunenburg was the latest victim.

The Warriors rolled to a 44-16 win on Saturday in Eastham to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Nauset quarterback Brendan Peno completed 14-of-21 passes for 208 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. He also rushed twice for 14 yards and another score.

Running back Joey Berardi rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. Isaiah Robinson (six catches, 42 yds) Berardi (one catch, 52 yds) and Seamus Mahoney (two catches, 48 yards) all caught touchdown passes from Peno, while Owen White hauled in four receptions for 59 yards.

Football

Tech Boston 40, St. John Paul II 26: The Lions (1-1) dropped their first game of the season. AJ Hennigan had a interception and returned it the length of the field for a 100-yard TD. Jack Kalkus threw two TD passes to Hennigan, and a 29-yard score to Cullen Lynch. Kalkus also converted a two-point conversion.

Carver 26, Nantucket 15: The Whalers battled hard against last year's Division 8 state finalist, but fell to go to 1-1 on the young season.

Martha’s Vineyard 42, Brighton 8: The Vineyarders (2-0) stayed perfect with their win over the Bengals.

Field Hockey

Nantucket 1, Marshfield 0: The Whalers (4-1-0) won their third straight.

Girls Soccer

St. John Paul II 3, Nantucket 3: The Whalers (2-0-2) and Lions (2-2-1) knotted it up. Adney Brannigan had one of two Whalers goals in the first 20 minutes for a 2-0 Nantucket lead.

The Lions tied it with goals by Kiera O'Malley, assisted by Aniela Gallagher, and Marlo Jumper, from Raegan Dillon, to knot it up at the break.

In the second half, Gallagher scored again to give the Lions a 3-2 lead. Nantucket tied it in the 63rd minute, which accounted for the final score.

Gallagher and Dillon had numerous opportunities late.

Girls Volleyball

Duxbury 3, Nantucket 0: The Whalers fell to 1-3.
