Many El Paso high school seniors are excited about milestones like applying to college or starting full-time jobs, yet they hold on to a piece of their childhood. One way they do this is by carrying Disney-themed or playful backpacks, part of a growing national trend.

The New York Times reported that kiddie cartoon backpacks are a must for the final year of secondary education.

Just in the halls of Americas High School, you can find students happily walking the halls with their favorite youthful backpacks in bright pink, yellow, blue and red.

Senior Jocelyn Cortez, who has a Spiderman backpack, said, "It's a senior tradition. It allows us the opportunity to relive our childhood before we go into the real world."

It seems fair enough. Popular themes include SpongeBob, Jurassic Park, Sesame Street, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, Strawberry Shortcake, Bluey Care Bears and Winnie the Pooh.

Americas High School pre-law teacher Amanda Stevens said she noticed the trend right away and loved it.

"It's kind of nostalgic for me as a mom to see kids generationally love what I once did," she said.
