FRIDAY, Aug. 9: Brookline native Grace Kelly hits Spire Center in Plymouth
Brookline's saxophone (and vocal) star Grace Kelly with her dazzling treatment of movie themes, as on her latest album, at the Spire Center in Plymouth. Canadian pop star Tate McRae opens two nights at MGM Music Hall in Boston. Get an early start for the two free events: 6 p.m. The Fat City Band lights up Ruth Gordon Amphitheater in Quincy; and at 7 p.m. The Launch in Hingham Harbor welcomes disco revivalists Booty Vortex. Country singer Dierks Bentley is at The Xfinity Center in Mansfield. The premier blues label, Alligator Records, has a new discovery worth hearing, when the Chris O'Leary Band hits The Fallout Shelter in Norwood. Hot young rock bands hit The C Note in Hull, with Man V. Ghost, and Midlife Crisis. Jamaican grooves with The Attractors at The Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. Songsmith Midge Ure, who you may know from the band Ultravox, brings his solo show to City Winery in Boston. The Breakers, a first-rate tribute to Tom Petty, headlines Memorial Hall in Plymouth. Original Cars keyboardist Greg Hawkes, with the band Eddie Japan backing him, re-creates The Cars' best tunes at the Spire Center in Plymouth. Rap queen Missy Elliott is at TD Garden in Boston. The Xfinity Center in Mansfield welcomes New Kids on the Block, who still dance up a storm. Local songsmith Lainey Dionne has an EP release party at the New World Tavern in Plymouth. Could be hardcore punk or melodic pop when Bilmuri takes over the Paradise Rock Club in Boston. The British rockers The Chameleons shake up The Sinclair in Cambridge. Comic Rachel Bloom at The Wilbur Theater in Boston. Fiddler/singer Kathleen Parks is worth a trip to Club Passim in Harvard Square. SUNDAY, Aug. 11: Aldous Collins takes over the John Alden Sportsman's Club
The Rhythm Room Afternoons show at the John Alden Sportsman's Club in Plymouth has been converted this week into Aldous Collins' Sun & Grass Festival, with Hanover's popular Mr. Collins himself, plus four other acts (music running from noon-6 p.m.), including Chase Stebbins, and the Mini Yellow Witches. Brighton Music Hall hosts a multi-act tribute to the late Boston producer Ducky Carlisle, featuring Stoughton's Mike Viola and The Figgs among others. Wild Nothing rock The Sinclair in Cambridge. Iron and Wine in concert at Roadrunner in Allston. Popsters The Marias take over MGM Music Hall in Boston. Comedian Corey Holcomb hits The Wilbur Theater in Boston. Country songwriter John Paul White – you know him from the band Civil Wars – brings his new tunes to City Winery in Boston. Glass Animals rock The Xfinity Center in Mansfield.

FUTURE REMINDER: If you recall, former Marshfield keyboardist Bruce Katz recorded a live album on his gig earlier this year at the Fallout Shelter in Norwood, and he's back to release the new live album Sept. 13.
