The husband of a Virginia mother who has been missing since late July appeared in court after he was charged with concealing a dead body — and prosecutors have revealed some startling internet searches he allegedly made, according to multiple outlets.

The charges against Naresh Bhatt were announced by the Manassas Park Police Department on Aug. 22 after he was arrested in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt.

Kafle, 28, a pediatric nurse, was last seen on July 27, police said, but no body has been found as of the time of writing. In their release announcing Bhatt's arrest, police said they are still hoping to locate the missing mother.

Bhatt appeared in court in Prince William County, Va., for his arraignment on Friday, Aug. 23, according to reports from WUSA, 7News and WTOP. It is not immediately clear if he entered a formal plea, but on Monday, Aug. 26, a judge ruled that Bhatt will be held in custody without bond, deeming him a flight risk, according to the outlets.

WUSA reported that prosecutors claimed Bhatt made Google searches in April asking, “How long does it take to get married when spouse die,” as well as "What happen to debt died spouse." The former alleged Google search was also reported by 7News.

The outlets further reported that prosecutors alleged during a hearing that blood was found in the couple’s bedroom and shower upon an investigation of their home.

Per local outlet 10 WAVY, investigators searching the family home noted that things were in disarray, but many items were already boxed and packed up, with Bhatt and his 1-year-old daughter's passports ready to go.

In the weeks leading up to Kafle's disappearance, prosecutors revealed that Bhatt had sold his vehicle and looked into selling their home.

Prosecutors also shared that Bhatt allegedly traveled to Chantilly on July 30 where he bought three knives, two of which have not been accounted for as of the time of writing.

On the next day, July 31, they continued to note that he returned to Chantilly to buy cleaning supplies.

Though a body has not yet been found, 7News reported that “every indication” pointed to Kafle being dead.

During the bond hearing, Bhatt's public defender argued that there was not as much blood found in the home as prosecutors suggested.

“That's maybe a nosebleed, judge,” the defense attorney said, according to WUSA.

WTOP reported that the defense argued that there was no evidence to even suggest Kafle was dead, citing the lack of a body.

Police said the pair's daughter is currently under the care of the Department of Social Services. A GoFundMe supporting the child and Kafle's family has raised over $200,000 as of the time of publishing.
