Idalou holds off Steers' late bid for 50-45 victory

Dec. 16—FARWELL — Idalou's boys took the lead early and weathered a late bid by Farwell on Tuesday night to edge the Steers 50-45.

Senior Tate Hendley led three players in double digits for the Wildcats (6-4) with 15 points, while senior Derek Cantu added 12 and junior Cutter Houchin 11.

For the Steers (5-4), who tied the game in the final stanza but couldn't get over the hump, junior Ryder McElroy collected 15 points and senior Corey Stancell scored 12.

In other boys action from Tuesday:

Dora 46, Tatum 36 — At Dora, the Coyotes opened a 15-5 lead at the quarter, built that to 20 and coasted down the stretch.

Junior Aaron Combs led all scorers with 12 points for Dora (4-1), while junior Mason Christensen added 10. Tatum (1-7) was paced by 11 points from senior Jordan White and 10 from sophomore Anthony Duffy.

Muleshoe 56, Bovina 48 — At Bovina, the Mules (4-4) pulled away from a halftime tie to turn back the Mustangs (2-10), who had won their previous two outings.

Junior Sebastian Kirven tallied 10 points for Muleshoe, followed by nine points each from seniors Adam Alarcon and Baylee Lovelady. Bovina's top scorer was senior Miguel Lopez with 14 points, with senior Gabriel Nieto and sophomore Angel Lara chipping in eight apiece.

Clovis Christian 60, Plainview Christian 17 — The host Eagles ran out to a 28-2 lead at the quarter and went on to square their record for the season at 4-4.

Senior Jaden Martinez netted 14 points — all in the opening stanza — for CCS. Junior Matthew Lusk and freshman Nathan Maroney each put in 12.

Plainview Christian (0-4) was paced by seven points from Braden Sattesahn.

On the girls' side:

Tatum 51, Dora 33 — Dora hung with Tatum (7-0), ranked No. 1 in Class 2A by MaxPreps, for a half before the visitors pulled away.

Junior Louann Villasenor scored 15 points for Tatum, while senior Valeria Marizcal notched 12 and sophomore Avery Henard 11. Dora (2-3) was led by 10 points from sophomore Dakota Jones.

CCS 52, Plainview Christian 6 — The Lady Eagles held Plainview Christian to one point in the first half and ran away to victory.

Sophomore Hannah Medina tallied a personal-best 12 points and freshman Madisyn Kruckeberg added three 3-pointers and 11 points for CCS. Jocelyn Martinez scored four points for Plainview Christian.

Lamesa 61, Muleshoe 21 — At Muleshoe, the visiting Lady Tornadoes opened a 16-4 lead at the quarter and never looked back.

Top scorers for Lamesa (15-6) were junior Chrisalynn Uresti with 11 points and senior Fashaa Edwards with 10. For Muleshoe (4-13), senior Riley Woodard scored 12 points.
