IHSAA boys basketball sectional brackets and players to watch from Lafayette area
LAFAYETTE — Indiana high school boys basketball's IHSAA sectional brackets were released on Sunday.
From 4A to 1A it's time to present a comprehensive list of matchups along with the best players to watch in this year's tournament.
Here's a breakdown and preview of the IHSAA High School Boys Basketball Sectionals beginning with the Lafayette Jeff bracket. Readers to note all records are listed as of Feb. 18.
Class 4A Lafayette Jeff Sectional
Kokomo (21-3) vs. Harrison (12-11) on Feb. 27: Best players for Kokomo - Fiory Bidunga (18.3 points per game, 12.9 rebounds per game, 4.6 blocks per game), Karson Rogers (18.1 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game). Best players for Harrison - Malachi King (17 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game). Winner plays Lafayette Jeff (12-9) on March 1. Best players for Lafayette Jeff - Devion Penny (14.3 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game), Alonzo Clawson-Smith (13.4 points per game, 3.3 assists per game), Ah'Keem Wilson (11.1 points per game).
McCutcheon (4-15) vs. Marion (8-13) on Feb. 27: Best players for McCutcheon - Owen Souligne (13.4 points per game), Brody Baker (12.2 points per game), Brody Raeke (10.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game). Winner plays Logansport (10-12) on March 1.
Class 3A Frankfort Sectional
Western (4-16) vs. Twin Lakes (16-6) on Feb. 27: Best players for Twin Lakes - Jamison Ousley (19.6 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game), Gavin Businger (10.9 points per game). Winner plays North Montgomery (9-12) on March 1. Best players for North Montgomery - Kelby Harwood (13.5 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game).
Benton Central (14-8) vs. West Lafayette (15-6) on Feb. 28: Best players for Benton Central - Hunter Sisson (leading scorer and rebounder), Michael Winchester (3-point shooting threat) and Joe Widmer (starting point guard and primary ball handler). Best players for West Lafayette - Donovan Loudermill (consistent scorer and ball handler), Drew Whitlock (3-point threat), Benny Speaker (perimeter threat and playmaker attacking inside), Kevo St. Hilaire (leading rebounder, shot blocker and post defender).
Frankfort (8-13) vs. Rensselaer Central (9-11) on Feb. 28: Best players for Frankfort - Alex Farley (15 points per game, 2.8 assists per game, 83% FT shooter), Kye Kirby (14.7 points per game, 1.9 steals per game). Best players for Rensselaer Central - Corbin Mathew (14.8 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game), Kadyn Rowland (10.9 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game).
Class 2A Central Catholic Sectional
Central Catholic (13-7) vs. Seeger (12-8) on Feb. 27: Best players for Central Catholic - Albert Schwartz (11.1 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game), Ray Clayton (9.7 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game). Winner plays Clinton Prairie (17-2) on March 1.
Carroll (13-7) vs. Delphi (9-12) on Feb. 27: Best players for Carroll - Chris Huerta (Carroll's leading scorer). Best players for Delphi - Chase Almager (16.2 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game), Walker Jones (16.1 points per game, six rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game). Winner plays Covington (10-12) on March 1. Best players for Covington - Coye Ferguson (14.5 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game), Austin Stein (13.6 points per game, 4.7 assists per game).
Class 1A Fountain Central Sectional
Faith Christian (9-12) vs. Clinton Central (1-19) on Feb. 27: Best players for Faith Christian - Connor Todhunter-Dawson (17.2 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game, 54% shooting), Joe Peter (11.4 points per game, 2.7 steals per game). Best players for Clinton Central - Luke Davison (10.8 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game). Winner plays North Vermillion (12-9) on March 1.
Rossville (9-13) vs. Attica (2-18) on Feb. 27: Best players for Rossville - Brayden Thiele-Hahn (13 points per game), Jordan Skiles (11.6 points per game), Charlie Thompson (10.6 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game). Best players for Attica - Jayce Larson (leading perimeter shooter). Winner plays Fountain Central (9-11) on March 1.
