Immigration agents arrest man charged with attempted murder, stalking in Worcester

WORCESTER ― The deportation arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday said agents had arrested a Brazilian man who was recently charged in Central District Court with attempted murder.

Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa, 33, was arrested in Central District Court on Aug. 12 by agents with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston office.

“Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa allegedly committed a number of violent crimes against a member of our Massachusetts community,” Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said in a news release. “We will not allow noncitizen criminals to repeatedly victimize our neighborhoods.

“ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.”

The release stated that Ribeiro-Rosa was charged with attempted murder, stalking, intimidation, kidnapping and two counts of vandalizing property.

Ribeiro-Rosa had previously been arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in September 2021, ICE said, after he illegally entered the country near Nogales, Arizona.

“Border Patrol officials (in 2021) served Ribeiro-Rosa with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and released him from custody,” ICE wrote.

He was arrested by Worcester police on the attempted murder and associated charges July 16.

According to a statement of facts filed in Central District Court by Worcester police, Ribeiro-Rosa, after being read his Miranda rights, admitted to, on separate occasions in recent months, accosting his ex-girlfriend in her vehicle, partly cutting her car's brakes at her place of work, and pouring sugar in her car’s gasoline tank.

Police said surveillance video showed the man pulling near the woman’s car and leaving a short time later; they said he partially cut the brakes and later poured sugar in her gas tank because he wanted her to call him for help.

The woman felt the brakes fail and got to a mechanic who confirmed they’d been cut, police said, and a mechanic also confirmed sugar had been poured in her tank.

Police also wrote that a GPS tracker had been placed on the woman’s car, placing her in fear. They noted that the woman had not told the man where she had moved prior to him pouring sugar in the gas tank at her new address.
