"The Duel" was filmed in Indianapolis when the city was still in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic. It was produced by an Indiana film company, Pigasus Pictures in Bloomington

It marks the debut of Sprouse, a former Disney Channel star, as an executive producer.

About 'The Duel'

The R-rated dramedy stars Sprouse and Callan McAuliffe (“The Walking Dead”) as members of a friend group falling apart due to infidelity — and a resulting duel challenge as a solution. Indy residents will see plenty of familiar places in the flick, Spouse said in a social media post last month.

“If you're from Indy, then you should definitely check it out, because you'll see some local haunts," he said.

Dylan Sprouse plans more Indiana projects

And it looks like “The Duel” won’t be Sprouse’s last project coming out of Indiana.

Sprouse, who was grand marshal of the 108th Indianapolis 500, has lauded the city for its hospitality, as well as its architecture, food and sports scene.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the film we created. In the past I’ve been reluctant to attach myself unless I wholeheartedly believed in the project, and TheDuel was exactly that for me,” Deadline.com quoted the former “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” actor saying. “I believe this marks the beginning of a long-lasting collaboration with the immensely talented Justin Matthews, Luke Roberts, and Zach Spicer and look forward to bringing more projects to the wonderful state of Indiana.”
