Week 5 of the Iowa high school football season is over, and there were several exciting matchups to keep an eye on throughout the IHSAA schedule.

The Bombers earn a huge win to open up district play, taking down Indianola, 16-14. Both teams move to 3-2 on the season with the result.

The Tigers posted a big win over the Little Cyclones, 49-14, in Ames.

9:35 Ankeny takes down Iowa City West
The Trojans made it a battle late, but the Hawks built enough of a cushion to take down West, 38-22, on Friday night. Both teams are now 2-3 on the season after the game.

The Lightning look well on their way to posting a 4-1 record through the first five weeks of the season.

9:20 Southeast Polk dominates Sioux City East
There were some questions about the Rams early in the season, but those have all but disappeared now after moving to 3-2 on the season with a huge 48-3 win over the Black Raiders.
9:20 Johnston takes down Waukee
The Dragons earn their second straight big win to move to 3-2 on the season with a 21-7 win over Waukee. The Warriors drop their second straight and move to 3-2 on the season.
9:14 Pella pulling away and en route to 5-0
It looked like there was upset potential between the Dutch and Carlisle, but Pella showed why they're a top-10 team in the fourth quarter.

The Jags bounce back from their first loss of the season with a resounding win over Des Moines East, 44-7.
8:55 Dowling Catholic gets things done
In a win that ended with a running clock, the Maroons take down Des Moines Roosevelt, 37-0. Dowling will likely remain as the top team in our Class 5A rankings after a performance like that. Maroons move to 4-1 on the season, Roosevelt drops to 1-4
8:53 Things getting tight between Pella and Carlisle
The Dutch are undefeated and the Wildcats are winless. This would be a pretty big upset should Carlisle pull it up.

What Iowa high school football games are we at tonight?
The Register and its affiliated publications will have reporters and photographers throughout the state tonight to cover the Week 5 action. In Des Moines, lead preps reporter Alyssa Hertel will be covering a CIML battle between No. 4 Waukee and No. 9 Johnston. Eli McKown will be out in Ankeny to watch the Hawks take on Iowa City West.
Just north of the metro, Joe Randleman will be watching the No. 9 team in Class 4A, Indianola, take on Ballard. Over on the east side of the state, Marc Ray will be covering Class 1A No. 5 Iowa City Regina against Cascade.

As of Thursday evening, it does not appear that any weather will prove to impact Week 5 of Iowa high school football action across the state. Temperatures will likely hover in the low 70s to high 60s and perhaps a bit lower than that, depending on the part of the state you're in.
