Iowa State women's basketball team picks up much-needed win at St. Thomas

After suffering back-to-back losses and setbacks in three of its last four contests, the Iowa State women’s basketball team needed something positive Wednesday night.

The Cyclones bounced out of their funk with a dominating road win.

Kelsey Joens scored a game-high 17 points as Iowa State picked up a much-needed win with an 85-44 victory at St. Thomas (Minn.).

Joens added five rebounds and two assists for the Cyclones, who improved to 3-3 on the season. Addy Brown chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.

The Cyclones beat up on a St. Thomas team that moved from Division III to Division I prior to the 2021-22 season.

Iowa State built a 23-6 lead in the first quarter and was rolling to a 42-19 lead by halftime. The Cyclones shot 53.3% (32-for-60) from the field, including 47.8% (11-for-23) from 3-point range.

They got contributions from everyone, with 10 players tallying a basket. Nyamer Diew and Audi Crooks both had 12 points for Iowa State.

Jalynn Bristow finished with 10 points for the Cyclones.
