IU divers Carson Tyler, Andrew Capobianco advance to semis on 3-meter springboard

SAINT-DENIS, France – Indiana University divers Carson Tyler and Andrew Capobianco advanced to semifinals on 3-meter springboard Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.

Top 18 advanced to Wednesday’s round.

Tyler, of Moultrie, Ga., was 10th with 389.80 points. Capobianco, of Holly Springs, N.C., was 15th with 382.05.

Through four of six rounds, Tyler was 19th and Capobianco 21st.

Tyler scored 73.50 points on each of his last two dives — a reverse 3 ½ tuck and a reverse 1 ½ with 3 ½ twists — to jump to 10th.

Capobianco scored 76.05 on a forward 2 ½ somersaults with three twists and 79.80 on a front 4 ½ tuck.

He won a silver medal with another former IU diver, Michael Hixon, on synchronized 3-meter at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Also Wednesday, Sarah Bacon of Indianapolis will compete in prelims of women’s 3-meter. She won the first medal by the United States at these Olympics, teaming with Kassidy Cook for a silver on synchro 3-meter July 27.
