Jace LaViolette injury update: Texas A&M OF's status for Wednesday's CWS remains unknown

Texas A&M baseball is one win away from advancing to the College World Series championship series, but the Aggies may be another man down for Wednesday's CWS semifinal game.

Aggies star outfielder Jace LaViolette exited Texas A&M's 5-1 CWS win Monday vs. Kentucky in the sixth inning with a hamstring injury, an injury he sustained on the base paths going first to third on a double from teammate Jackson Appel.

Prior to going down with his injury, LaViolette drew a lead-off walk. He'd come around to score but not without showing a considerable amount of pain.

Texas A&M's outfield depth was already thin prior to LaViolette's injury, as star centerfielder Braden Montgomery went down with a season-ending lower leg injury in the super regional vs. Oregon. Here's what you need to know on LaViolette's injury:

Jace LaViolette injury update

The injury occurred in the top of the sixth inning of the Aggies College World Series game vs. Kentucky Monday, June 17 as LaViolette went from first to third on a double down the right field line from TAMU catcher Jackson Appel.

As LaViolette rounded into third, the right fielder immediately held the back of his right hamstring. He'd stay in the game after receiving a visit from an Aggies athletic trainer and manager Jim Schlossnagle. Then on the next play, as Hayden Shott singled into left field, LaViolette showed a significant amount of pain as he came into score — in fact, was seen hobbling into home.

Video from the ESPN broadcast showed LaViolette immediately heading down into the Aggies clubhouse to seek treatment. After getting his hamstring wrapped twice, LaViolette would hit again in the sixth, as the Aggies hit around in the lineup in the inning.

However, that'd be it for LaViolette as he was removed from the game as the Aggies went out to play the field in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caden Sorrell moved from left to right to take over LaViolette's position in the field while freshman Jack Bell came in to replace him in the lineup.

As Texas A&M was leaving its hotel for Charles Schwab Field Wednesday, LaViolette was seen standing out of the Aggies team bus with his hamstring all wrapped up with tape:

What Jim Schlossnagle said about Jace LaViolette injury

Following the Aggies' win over the Wildcats, Texas A&M manager Jim Schlossnagle told the media inside the press room at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha that LaViolette "tweaked his hamstring a bit" and his status for Wednesday's CWS semifinals came was unknown.

"We will see. Tweaked his hamstring a little bit, thankfully we don't play tomorrow," Schlossnagle said Monday. "So we got a good, hopefully, a little bit less than 48 hours to see if we can get him functional to do something on the field. ... But the last two weeks have been losing players left and right. Gives other guys opportunities, so hopefully we'll make a good story."

When asked for an update on LaViolette's injury Tuesday during his day-before-game news conference, Schlossnagle told the media that he had no update on his right fielder's status for Wednesday's game.
