Jelly Roll Reveals His Latest Career Milestone Is a Lifelong Dream

It’s Jelly Roll’s world and we’re all just living in it!

2024 has been a milestone year for the “Need a Favor” singer. First, Jelly Roll dominated the CMT Awards, taking home trophies for Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year, and CMT Performance of the Year. While he said that was one of the best nights of his life in his acceptance speech, now he’s reflecting on yet another lifelong dream coming true.

On August 8, Jelly Roll sat down with The Pat McAfee Show to discuss that his song, “Get By” has been selected as the new College GameDay anthem for the 2024-25 season.

“Lifelong dream to have a theme song—this is huge,” Jelly Roll said during the interview. “Big college football fan. I grew up in the South and I’m sure you know this: It goes Jesus, college football, Lynyrd Skynyrd, you know what I’m sayin’? In that order.”

As stoked as Jelly Roll is, ESPN fans are split on the news. “I love this!!! Lfg,” Michael Phelps exclaimed on Instagram. “I like Jelly Roll just fine but 'we’re coming to your city' just brings that college football aura that we all love and enjoy! Someone open the windows and light the smoker,” another fan countered. “I do not understand all the hate for Jelly at all. One of the most humbled human beings out there,” someone else remarked.

While not all fans are thrilled about this new development, ESPN Vice President of Marketing, Curtis Friends, explained why the Grammy-nominated artist is the perfect fit for the football honor. “There’s a powerful connection between music and college football and for more than a decade, the ESPN college football music anthem has been integral to the promotion of the sport while its release has marked the unofficial start to the season,” he said in a statement. “Jelly Roll is a talented, award-winning artist whose music speaks to the passion of college football fans across the country, and we’re excited ‘Get By’ will soundtrack the sport all season long.”

It's a big year for college football theme songs and country music artists! SEC network previously announced Luke Combs as the singer of their anthem for 2024.
