'Jeopardy!' Fans Weigh In After Contestant's 'Rough Day' Costs Him the Game

Jeopardy!/CBS

Fans had a lot to say after the Tuesday, July 23 episode of Jeopardy!, which featured contestants Neilesh Vinjamuri, Lindsay Denninger and Tim Herd competing to come out on top.

Tim quickly charmed viewers with his personality and sweet demeanor, but unfortunately, it didn't end up being a great night for him.

After a poor showing in the first and second rounds with a negative score in both, Tim ended the game with -$2,400 and was unable to participate in Final Jeopardy. Instead of Tim, Neilesh won and took home $11,999, while Lindsay took second place.

Throughout the show, fans appeared to take a liking to Tim and wanted him to improve, with supportive comments on social media like, "Oh Tim, sorry you had a bad night #Jeopardy," and "Aww, tough time for Tim. Go get that PhD! 🎓#Jeopardy."

Another wrote, "I'm hoping Tim is nervous because what in the incorrect responses is going on here #Jeopardy."

But after the episode, viewers headed to the popular social media platform Reddit to discuss whether or not Tim just had a "rough" day or maybe shouldn't have been on the show at all.

"A rough day for Tim. He looked deeply uncomfortable the whole game. Congrats to Neilesh!" one person said, while quite a few felt like nerves were likely the cause for the poor performance, with people calling Tim "panicked," "deer in the headlights," and "tough to watch."

"Ugh, poor Tim- I'm surprised we don't see more contestants lose it to nerves tbh. I loved his anecdote, he seems like a sweetheart," said someone else.

Others felt like it was a combination of different factors, as someone else suggested he had a bad strategy about ringing in to answer and was "overly cautious," but also had bad luck with tough questions–seesh!
