PLOVER – Jersey Mike’s Subs will open in three weeks in Crossroads Commons.

The local franchise owner, Rusty Lewis, said the opening date is set for July 10 at 176 Crossroads Drive in Plover. Over the last few months, crews renovated the former Sweet Tea Clothing Co. space between Royal House of Polish and Shopko Optical, near Panda Express. When the Plover location opens, it will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

In April, Lewis confirmed initial plans to open the chain restaurant in Crossroads Commons, and he said he was happy to bring another location to central Wisconsin after a successful opening near Wausau. Jersey Mike’s opened in February in Rib Mountain between Starbucks and Sleep Number.

Jersey Mike’s first started in 1956 as Mike’s Subs in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, serving sliced and grilled subs on freshly baked bread. In 1975, a 17-year-old high school senior named Peter Cancro purchased the operation with his football coach and expanded to open more locations. In 1987, Cancro began franchising the restaurant and changed the name to Jersey Mike’s Subs to honor the brand’s first location. Cancro is now the CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems.

Using the same original recipe, the “fast-casual” sub sandwich restaurant has since grown to include about 3,000 locations. For more information, visit jerseymikes.com.
