Jessica Alba surprises dad by renovating his childhood home in emotional video

Jessica Alba's latest renovation hit close to home — literally.

The "Trigger Warning" star shared the first part of a yearslong project in a video on YouTube Aug. 30, documenting how she bought and remodeled her dad's Claremont, California, childhood home.

In the clip, Jessica Alba and Lizzy Mathis, the hosts of "Honest Renovations," discussed the project and showed Jessica Alba's parents' shocked reactions.

While showing the modern transformations of the space, Jessica Alba explained that she wanted to ensure her grandpa's legacy continued, since he planted roots there.

"Even though grandpa passed, his legacy is this house. And I tried to infuse grandpa throughout this house," Jessica Alba told her parents, Mark and Cathy Alba, through tears.

Jessica Alba explained that since her grandfather's death, her grandmother needs constant care and assistance. To help her grandma financially, the family planned to sell the home, until the actor decided to step in.

"Instead of (the house) going to a stranger, I wanted to keep this home in our family," Jessica Alba said. "Now, the catch is that my parents didn't know that I was going to buy this home for them."

The video then showed Jessica Alba and Mathis working on the project, which started in April 2021. The video followed the process of designing, obtaining permits, demolition and renovation.

In one emotional moment, Jessica Alba surprised her parents, telling them the home is staying in the family.

"The last piece of the puzzle is I've been trying to figure out how to tell you guys that I'm going to buy you guys this house," Jessica Alba said, then paused before adding, "So, don't buy it yourself."

Mark Alba called the gesture "so sweet" and gave his daughter a hug, saying, "I'm very proud of you."

Jessica Alba, her parents and her brother, Josh Alba, who was also there for the surprise, shared a long group hug, complete with audible sniffles.

"Dad is shaking right now, you should know," Josh Alba said.

Jessica Alba continued, "Now the house you grew up in, Dad, is yours," as Mark Alba started to cry.

"He would be so proud of you, Jessica," Mark Alba told his daughter. "He was so proud of you."

"He's proud of you, dad," Jessica Alba responded.

In the caption of the video, Jessica Alba wrote, in part, “I’m filled with so many feels — after keeping in this big secret, letting my parents in the surprise, followed by many many months of working to make the house perfect for my parents, I can’t believe this really happened. Grampers, this one is for you — we love and miss you more than you know.”
