Jon Bernthal and Pablo Schreiber Join His & Hers Thriller Adaptation at Netflix, Opposite Tessa Thompson
Fresh off an Emmy win just days ago, there’s some more good news for Jon Bernthal: He’s been cast in Netflix’s His & Hers adaptation opposite Tessa Thompson, TVLine has learned.
Bernthal and Pablo Schreiber (Halo) have both boarded the project, which is a limited-series adaptation of Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel of the same name. The six-episode psychological thriller follows Thompson’s Anna, who is living in “haunting reclusivity” in Atlanta, fading away from her friends and news anchor career, per the official description. But news of a murder in Dahlonega, the sleepy town where Anna grew up, snaps her back to life, and Det. Jack Harper becomes suspicious of her sudden interest in the case.
Bernthal will co-star as the aforementioned detective, who also happens to be Anna’s estranged husband, “their relationship complicated by loss and betrayal,” the character description reads. Schreiber, meanwhile, will play Richard, described as one of the best cameramen at WSK TV News, who Anna chooses to be her right-hand man when she picks up the story of the Dahlonega murder.
Other new castings include Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy) as sharp-tongued Zoe, who lives in her parent’s house with Jack and her six-year old daughter Meg; Rebecca Rittenhouse (Red Band Society) as Lexy, the new anchor at WSK-TV News — a position Anna had held for years; Crystal Fox (The Haves and the Have Nots) as Anna’s mother, Alice; and Sunita Mani (No Activity) as Priya, a new Sheriff’s Office detective and Jack’s partner.
Production on His & Hers is expected to begin this fall. Thompson is also on board as an executive producer, while Dee Johnson (Nashville, ER) will serve as writer, EP and showrunner.
At the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month, Bernthal took home his first Emmy trophy, winning in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his turn as The Bear‘s Michael Berzatto. (See the full list of winners here.) He’s also known for his work as Frank Castle in Netflix’s The Punisher series, a role he’ll reprise in Disney+’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.
Schreiber is coming off two seasons as Master Chief in Paramount+’s Halo adaptation, which was cancelled in July. At the time, the series was said to be getting shopped elsewhere, but there have since been no updates.
