Brown: How good can this Kentucky football team be? We got glimpse vs top-ranked Georgia

Kentucky football's defense did everything it could, but Georgia survives major upset

Coverage during the game:

LEXINGTON — Kentucky football laid an egg last week, putting forth one of the worst performances of Mark Stoops' tenure as coach in a 31-6 home loss to South Carolina.

And the schedule doesn't do the Wildcats any favors.

UK takes the field for its second SEC game of the season today, hosting top-ranked Georgia.

The Bulldogs, who are 48-2 in their last 50 games and have won 41 straight regular-season contests, have dominated the series with the Wildcats. UGA leads 63-12-2, with 14 consecutive victories. Stoops is winless (0-11) against Georgia.

Today's matchup takes on extra meaning for two of Kentucky's most high-profile players: quarterback Brock Vandagriff and linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson both were members of UGA's 2021 signing class and spent the past three seasons with the program before transferring and joining UK earlier this year.

Vandagriff will look to rebound after a forgettable showing against South Carolina, as he completed 30% (3 for 10) of his attempts for 30 yards, no touchdowns and an interception that was returned for a score. Dumas-Johnson has tallied six tackles (1.5 for loss), an interception and a quarterback hurry through two games with the Wildcats.

The pair's reunion tussle against their former teammates will kick off under the lights today at Kroger Field.

In a game of field goals, Georgia has another.

Peyton Woodring's kick was true from 30 yards out.

Prior to Saturday, the last time Georgia had three (or fewer) points after two quarters was last season against South Carolina. That day, UGA trailed 14-3 at intermission.

But the Bulldogs stormed back to take a 24-14 victory at Sanford Stadium.

Kentucky strong safety Zion Childress had a 55-yard pick six.

But after review, officials ruled the pass hit the ground before Childress caught it and scored.

Georgia cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested Thursday on a reckless driving charge after being clocked driving 106 mph.

Georgia 37, Kentucky 17: The Wildcats will play better than last week — even if the final score doesn't necessarily reflect it. UK will keep it close for a bit before it falls by double digits and into an 0-2 hole in the conference standings.
