Kentucky high school sports spring standouts: Meet top 5 girls teams from Louisville area

With the 2023-24 high school sports season now complete, it’s time to look back at some of the top Louisville-area girls teams from the spring.

Listed below are five standout squads from the 2024 season. Teams from the following counties were eligible: Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer.

Starting June 25, readers will be able to use our online poll to make their pick for Girls Team of the Spring.

Assumption softball

The Rockets won a regional title for the first time since 1998 and reached the semifinals of the state tournament before falling 8-0 to North Laurel and finishing with a 30-12 record. A pair of juniors earned second-team All-State honors — Lauren Satterly and Lauren Campisano.

Christian Academy track and field

The Centurions won the Class 2A, Region Three title and finished second behind Lexington Catholic in the Class 2A state meet. The 400-meter relay team of Kylie Moore, Taylor Touche, Ava Moore and Ella Mast won the state title. Moore, an eighth-grader, also won the high jump.

Kentucky Country Day lacrosse

The Bearcats beat Eastern 13-4 to capture their third Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League title in the last four years and finish with a 26-2 record, going undefeated against Kentucky competition. Dylan Yonover (Attacker of the Year), Ellie Beam (Midfielder of the Year) and Aspen Caudill (Goalie of the Year) earned top postseason honors from the KSLL.

Manual track and field

The Crimsons won the Class 3A state championship for the fourth straight year. Manual junior E’Ternity Starks won the high jump, and senior Flora Biro finished second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.

Sacred Heart tennis

The Valkyries defeated Corbin 3-0 to capture their sixth straight team state championship and 15th overall. Sacred Heart also got individual state championships from senior Ellie Hammond in singles and the doubles pair of seniors Avery Voss and Lilah Jane Shallcross.
