Kidnapping suspect in custody after six-hour standoff at north Jackson residence

A Jackson police official confirmed to the Clarion Ledger that 27-year-old Jerell Lynch, a kidnapping suspect, was arrested Monday evening following a six-hour standoff with authorities.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said a U.S. Marshals Task Force arrived at The Pearl at Highland Village Monday morning to serve an arrest warrant for Lynch. The Pearl at Highland Village is a neighborhood in the 5000 block of Ridgewood Road in northeast Jackson.

Wade said when the task force attempted to serve the warrant, Lynch barricaded himself inside an apartment at the location.

The Jackson Police Department, a SWAT team, the U.S. Marshals and a hostage negotiator responded to the scene.

According to Wade, a woman inside the apartment was able to escape. The woman told officers Lynch was armed with an assault-styled rifle.

Wade said when police went into the apartment, Lynch was not inside. Lynch had managed to get into the attic, which gave him access to several other apartments inside the building, Wade said.

Authorities at the scene searched through 12 apartments in the building before finding Lynch in the attic of one of the units. Police then arrested Lynch. Wade said Lynch was apprehended "without incident."

No injuries were reported among the involved officers.

According to Wade, Lynch “has four warrants for domestic violence, three for simple assault and one for kidnapping."

"This is the result we want. (Lynch) going to jail, and these officers going home," Wade said.
