This story contains spoilers for the season finale of Gen V.

Throughout Gen V's first season, it felt like our superheroes were always playing catch-up. An evil prison experimented on Godolkin University students right under their noses—and it took until the season finale for our main characters to finally liberate their f*cked-up institution. By the time they get there, though, it's a little too late for any true salvation. Thanks to politician Victoria Neuman's escapades in the last episode, the superhero virus is already in the wind. So, all that's left to do is try and kill each other, I guess?

In classic The Boys fashion, Sam kicks off the episode by punching a security guard so hard in the face that his fist gets stuck in his skull. Cate tells the prisoners that they are superior to regular humans—and that it’s time to show the world just what that means. (Read: kill all humans.) Immediately, one of the prisoners finds a human adjunct professor and burns her face off. Then, they embark on a murderous rampage at the school. It's reminiscent of X-Men vs. The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, but evil always wins in the world of The Boys.

Following a mass amount of chaos and bloodshed, the school uses some sort of sound beacon that only hurts supes. For a moment, it works—until one of the escaped prisoners destroys the speakers, then their carnage continues. Marie has the chance to to meet with sister and join the Seven if she kills Cate, but our hero is conflicted. Cate is her friend... sort of. At the same time, Marie became a hero to find her sister and apologize for accidentally murdering their parents. Either way, the battle rages on.

Cate sends Translucent’s invisible son, Maverick, at Marie—but our hero is able to tell where he is by sensing his location with her blood powers. She knocks him out and confirms that he was just walking around naked all season. Meanwhile, Jordan helps the Vought employees escape (for some reason?) while Andre fights Sam. Marie tells Cate that she doesn’t know what to do anymore, and that she just wants the bloodshed to stop. She just wants to be a good person! Cate counters that she isn’t a person. She’s a product. "Then, fuck you," Marie spits.

Gathering up the blood from all of the dead bodies around her, Marie sends a dozen daggers at an escaped prisoner, who is trying to kill the Vought employees. As Cate reaches out to control Jordan with her mind powers, Marie blows her arm off—and screams out in pain. That's when we finally get our surprise cameo. The Boys's Homelander arrives. With the evil Superman's appearance, the action comes to a screeching halt. Homelander slowly approaches Marie, asking, "What kind of an animal are you? Do you like attacking your own kind?" He smacks her with a powerful laser beam from his eyes. The scene cuts to black.

Sometime in the future, the cable news station celebrates Cate and Sam for their "heroic efforts." Marie and her friends are blamed for the massacre... as Homelander watches the broadcast and smiles. Later, Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre wake up in a bright room with no doors, dressed in hospital gowns. "Where are we?" Marie asks. The end—for now. In a mid-credits tease for The Boys fans, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) finds The Woods and declares, "What a bunch of c**ts."

With so many of Gen V's plots left unanswered, it seems as if the spinoff's cliffhangers will spill into The Boys Season Four. We end this season not only with Homelander’s growing support for superhuman supremacy, but also Neuman coming into possession of a superhuman virus. That's a lot of grey areas to sort through. Let's see if The Boys Season Four will be up to the task. If not, Prime Video has already renewed Gen V for another semester of college chaos.
