Learn about fruit and vegetable harvesting during two Crawford County workshops

Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is hosting a Neighbor to Neighbor Conservation Series. The workshop series is a chance to see what is happening around the county in the conservation and agricultural fields.

Each workshop will last no more than two hours and offer hands-on information, a tour and a chance for questions and answers.

"Growing Apples and Strawberries" takes place at 6 p.m. June 27 at the greenhouse at The Pickwick Place, 1875 N. Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus. The speaker will be Ethan Stuckey from the Pickwick Place. He will discuss tree pruning techniques, tree care and maintenance and common problems associated with apple trees. Participants will view a strawberry renovation demonstration and look at first-year strawberry growth.

"Raspberries, Corn, Rhubarb and Asparagus - Oh My!" is set for 6 p.m. July 25 at 4031 Ohio 19, Bucyrus. Stuckey will lead a discussion about raspberry harvest and trellis design. Participants will walk through and discuss modern white sweet corn varieties and end the evening with end of summer care for asparagus and rhubarb to promote a better harvest in the spring.
