I've been a fan of The Gentle Barn since I found them on TikTok and started writing about them a few years ago. They rescue animals from abuse, neglect, and slaughter and provide a loving home to these vulnerable animals. They have a variety of farm animals, and the owner of the sanctuary, Ellie Laks, even wrote a book about what she's learned working with these beautiful animals, and what hugging a cow can do for your soul.

Australian born actress Ruby Rose visited The Gentle Barn recently and shared pictures on Instagram of the experience on Monday, July 22nd. The photos show her and her friends snuggling up with a cow and pig and other farm animals. It looks like they all loved it! Make sure that you watch the video at the end because Laci Evans explains why hugging a cow is the best!

I love Laci's video and now I want to find a cow to hug! We visited family in Missouri recently, but their cows were not up for a hug even though I tried bribing them with food. Ruby Rose's fans had lots to say about the video. @little_queenrose_ shared, "Animals bring me peace too, I learn a lot from them." and @gem_k_sands added, "Someone was in her favorite happy place! Nothing more relaxing than being surrounded by beautiful animals." Even @Peta chimed in, "The joy in these photos! Always love hanging out with our animal friends and learning about their unique personalities!"

What's The Deal with Hugging Cows?

Hugging cows and cow cuddling is gaining popularity, and for good reason. According to Psychology Today, hugging a cow is actually a therapeutic practice and it's good for you, "This practice is gaining popularity worldwide because it is thought to offer a unique blend of emotional and psychological benefits. This serene activity primarily aids in reducing stress through gentle interaction with cows. As one engages in the act of touching, petting, or even lying beside these tranquil animals, the body responds by releasing oxytocin, a hormone known for promoting feelings of happiness and reducing stress. This hormone release not only alleviates immediate stress but also fosters a general sense of well-being." In short, cows offer us calmness.

Psychology Today goes on to add a bit more about the benefits, "Additionally, the slow, deliberate movements and peaceful demeanor of cows encourage a state of mindfulness. Being in their presence allows individuals to anchor themselves in the present moment, setting aside the distractions and worries of daily life. This mindfulness aspect is particularly beneficial for those grappling with anxiety or seeking a form of mental escape."

I don't know about you, but hugging cows is now on my bucket list! I've always thought of these animals as gentle giants, and I'm so glad that they're willing to help us all find a little peace in our own hectic lives.
