ICYMI, Kohler (yes, the brand with design-forward faucets, fixtures, and more) has a five-star resort in its namesake town of Kohler, Wisconsin. To celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary and their legacy of iconic design, they collaborated with renowned contemporary artist and sculptor Daniel Arsham. The partnership, called Arsham in Kohler, touches on the intersections of art, design, golf, and hospitality.
As a part of the collaboration, Arsham unveiled six public-facing, large-scale sculptures around Destination Kohler and the property's world-class golf courses, Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits. Arsham says, “Incorporating my sculptures into the golf landscape will hopefully spark conversation about creative expression and golf in a whole new way.”
The installations—which range from a giant camera to a life-size car to Arsham’s spin on the Venus de Milo—are made from eroded bronze and are meant to patina beautifully over time. They're so substantial in size and weight that they had to be brought over via ship and cargo plane.
Arsham says, “There is a kind of artistic, architectural, even sculptural proposition that's inherent in the game of golf, where you end up playing against the creator of the course itself. We created an atmosphere where unexpected wonders emerge out of the blue, offering moments of surprise, and beckoning guests and the community to explore our world from a new perspective.”
The artist also designed a private luxury guest cabin at Kohler Resorts with scenic views of Lake Michigan. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom contemporary cabin is filled with wabi-sabi furniture, sculptural silhouettes, layers of texture, and—of course—plenty of incredible art. From futuristic mouse sculptures and Dr. Seuss-esque prints to statement mirrors and bespoke ashtrays, you’ll find artistic surprises from Arsham wherever you look.
The bathroom also features fixtures from Arsham’s new collection with Kohler, called Landshapes, which will be available to shop in the fall. Highlights from the collection include a Japanese-inspired vanity with water droplet-shaped drawer pulls, a sleek toilet with Arsham’s signature eroded motif, a freeform vessel sink, and amorphous sconces that are reminiscent of flowing fabric.
The luxe cabin beautifully juxtaposes biophilic design with edgy art and contemporary sculptures to create an experience that feels playful while still honoring its natural Wisconsin surroundings. Just outside the cabin, you’ll discover a zen garden that’s home to two more of Arsham’s sculptures, and the bluff beyond boasts panoramic views of Lake Michigan.
After a day at the spa or golf course, this outdoor space would be the perfect place to unwind. The good news? You can experience it for yourself; the cabin is now available for bookings on the Arsham in Kohler website.
If you can’t get enough of Arsham’s collaboration with Kohler, you can also bring home some golf apparel designed in collaboration with lifestyle brand Malbon Golf. With its vivid teal details and modern, artistic flair, you’ll be ready to hit the course in style. These products are available to shop now through the Arsham in Kohler website and on Malbon Golf's website.
