“The Bachelorette” host Jesse Palmer reacts to Jenn's hometown dates: 'Every rose ceremony gets tougher'

The host reacts to Jeremy's elimination and explains why love is both a marathon AND a sprint.

Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Jenn's "journey" to find "love." Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about Jeremy and Jenn's grocery store date, why approval from a significant other's pet is so important, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: In Houston, Devin introduced Jenn to the other "woman" in his life: his dog, Charlie. In your professional opinion, if a person's significant other doesn't get along with their pet or vice-versa, is that an automatic dealbreaker?

JESSE PALMER: It is an absolute dealbreaker, and if they don’t get along, then the date should be discontinued immediately. The only exception to this rule is if the pet is a King cobra snake.

We already know from this franchise that "love is like a leap of faith," but now it's time for you to answer a question Devin asked Jenn: "Do you think love is like a sprint or a marathon?" Why?

I think the correct answer is both! Love in its early stages often takes off right out of the block, hot and heavy. Sprinters can run out of gas though, as do many relationships that are full-throttle all the time. I think most lasting relationships are marathons, slow and steady, and in control through the ups and downs.

Jeremy took Jenn on a glamorous shopping trip... to Stew Leonard's. What's the most low-key place you've ever taken a date?

While filming, [my wife] Emely and I drove by a goat farm and spontaneously decided to hop out and go visit with them. We got to feed and pet them, and they nibbled on our clothes. It was strangely very fun and very zen at the same time.

Jenn went into every date hoping that she'd hear more from each guy about how they're really feeling — and she ended up getting that validation. What do you think it is about spending time with family that helped the guys open up more about their emotions?

I think when the guys get validation from their family and friends, it allows them to feel more comfortable opening up and verbalizing their own feelings to Jenn.

The men all looked devastated when Jeremy did not get a rose. How would you describe the mood in the room when you came in and asked him to say his goodbyes?

Every rose ceremony gets tougher for Jenn, and for the men, too. It's such a unique moment, because yes, the men are elated to be furthering their relationships with Jenn, but they’re also bummed to see a friend go home.
