Barack Obama Shares an Adorable Throwback Photo for His Daughter Malia's Birthday

For Barack Obama, the Fourth of July was more than a national holiday—it marked his oldest daughter Malia’s birthday.

The former President publicly wished his daughter, who turned 26, a happy birthday with a sweet throwback photo on Instagram. In the snap, a young Malia adorably clasps onto her dad’s hand as she gazes up at him while they walk down a sidewalk wearing matching outfits. Obama, for his part, wore a chambray button-down tucked into khaki pants, while his daughter was clad in jeans and a blue-and-white floral shirt layered under a denim jacket.

“Happy birthday, Malia. One of the greatest joys of my life is watching you grow into the extraordinary woman you’ve become today—and the fact that you’re still willing to hold your dad’s hand in public!” Barack captioned the heartwarming photo.

Meanwhile, his wife Michelle posted her own Instagram tribute to Malia—digging even further into the family photo album. “Happy birthday, Malia! No matter how old you get, you’ll always be my little pea and I’ll always be proud of you,” Michelle wrote alongside a picture of toddler Malia holding a stuffed bunny. “You deserve the world and more. ❤️.”

Now all grown up, Malia works as a filmmaker and screenwriter in California, where she lives with her younger sister Sasha. Earlier this year, she premiered her short film, The Heart, at Sundance Film Festival. Marking her own red carpet debut, she kept things casual in a striped button-down, long gray wool coat, and a ‘00s-style gray skinny scarf.
