Sometimes, hotels are about more than just staying the night. At the Loews Regency New York, which has been open on Park Avenue and East 61st Street since 1963, there are close to 400 rooms in which guests can rest their heads, however the property also holds a special place for those of us who sleep elsewhere.

Step into the property’s restaurant, The Regency Bar & Grill any morning, and you’re likely to catch sight of city’s power players brokering deals over egg white frittatas or smoked salmon Benedicts. The restaurant stays buzzing throughout the day and into the evening (so does an outpost of Sant Ambroeus, just down the hall), making the space an integral part of the Upper East Side’s social machinery, but there’s more to the Regency than just what’s happening at those tables.

The property is an ideal place to stay for anyone hoping to take advantage of one of Manhattan’s most storied neighborhoods. Guests are just steps away from Central Park (where, of course, a concierge can help arrange a picnic) and enjoy proximity to some of the city’s best museums, shops, galleries, and restaurants. That is, of course, if you ever decide to leave the hotel, which is also home to the Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa, and suites designed by the likes of Nate Berkus, Meyer Davis, Rottet Studio, and Haynes Roberts.

Here, managing director John Maibach shares the details of his own favorite room, and gives some advice on how make the most of living—however briefly—on Park Avenue.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

With 379 guest rooms and 58 suites, including our 5,500-square-foot Regency Residence, it is difficult to choose just one room to highlight at our property. However, one of my favorites, and most popular is our Park Avenue Two-Bedroom Suite.

The suite has two bedrooms—one king room with double paneled windows of Park Avenue, an Instagram worthy view; and the second bedroom is composed of two double beds, ideal for a family vacation experience. The spacious suite also includes a kitchenette, living room, two full bathrooms and powder room. And for those looking for more space, the suite connects to an Avenue King and an Avenue Double, allowing for a three- or four-bedroom suite on Park Avenue, what could be better?

How much does it cost per night?

It varies based on season, but it is currently about $2099 per night.

How would you describe the guests and the vibes at the hotel?

Loews Regency New York Hotel is one of the city’s most iconic hotels. With over 60 years of luxury service and expertise, the hotel is also home to The Regency Bar & Grill, best known for its Power Breakfast, which started in the 1970s. Our guests, mostly composed of couples, families, and business travelers, are an extension of our team, and we welcome them like family, whether it’s their first time on property, or their tenth.

Our staff is a big part of our hotel. In fact, a large portion of our team members have been with us for over 20 years; our guests love seeing their smiling faces when they return home to Park Avenue time and time again.

What feeling about New York City do you hope to give to guests?

We want our guests to walk outside our doors and feel like a New Yorker; and with our signature restaurant and on-site spa and salon by Julien Farel, our lobby and common areas are often filled with locals and Upper East Siders.

Park Avenue and the Upper East Side still exude a unique sophistication that our guests appreciate. We are a luxury neighborhood hotel, while still convenient to all the best shopping, museums, and restaurants that New York City has to offer.

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?

We have two. One is The Regency Bar & Grill located in our lobby. We recommend our guests visit for our one-of-a-kind weekday Power Breakfast experience under the direction of our executive chef, Manjit Manohar, or grab a drink at our bar in the late afternoon or early evening. We are known to make the Perfect Martini with Grey Goose Vodka, or we encourage guests to opt for a low or no ABV beverage from our new Free Spirited by Loews Hotels program. If you decide to leave our oasis, make sure to visit Central Park. Only a few blocks from our doors, we encourage guests to enjoy our outdoor backyard with endless walking, running and biking paths.
