Black Bears Adorably Enjoy a Bubble Bath at the Audubon Nature Institute

Not all animals like to play in water, but it's clear these black bears at Audubon Nature Institute are huge fans. The Zoo is home to many animals, and they share adorable videos of their residents doing the cutest things. Like this video they posted on Wednesday, September 18th of two black bears playing in a bubble bath...we can't get enough of it!

At first the two bears don't know what to think of the bubbles; I'm guessing they haven't ever seen bubbles before and aren't sure what to do with them. They swat at them and try to eat them. They're having fun with the weird, disappearing things!

They were having so much fun with all of the bubbles...until they weren't. In the end it looks like they decided to call it a day and got bored with the bubbles. Like me, others enjoyed Audubon's cute video. One commenter admitted, "My husband worried about why this video is playing on repeat!" @ElectricBanana joked, "I was very worried about loose black bears in New Orleans until I realized this was Audubon Zoo. LOL!" and @Isabel K added, "I could spend hours watching the bears take bubble baths and beat each other up! They’re so silly!"

Facts About Black Bears

As you could see in the video, black bears are big animals, but believe it or not, they are the smallest of the bear species found in America; brown bears (known as the grizzly bear) and the polar bear are both larger in size. But that doesn't mean that black bears are small; they're about 4-6 feet long and can weigh between 150 and 650 pounds. Males standing on their hind legs can be over 7 feet tall!

Black bears are more timid than grizzlies, and while they are aggressive, they may be a little slower to act on it than grizzlies. They avoid humans whenever they can, that is, unless they're looking for food. They are opportunistic and will approach any food source (like trash cans) to find something to eat.

They also steer clear of grizzlies, and will move out of their way, not fighting them for food or territory. In the wild they eat fruit, nuts, plants and honey, as well as insects such as ants and bees. If they find bodies of water where fish are abundant, they'll occasionally catch fish as well. Fact Animal shared this cool fact, these bears love berries and can eat up to 10 thousand a day! "They have an excellent sense of smell, and this helps them locate ripping berries, nuts and fruits as well as bee hives, where they feed on the honey and bee larvae."

Black bears are excellent climbers and swimmers. Their curved claws help them hold on to trees as they climb, and they use their huge paws as flippers when swimming. They are smart and can figure out how to open screw-top jars and manipulate door latches. They're also strong; they're estimated to be 5 times as strong as humans.

I love learning random facts about animals! I guess another fact we can add is that black bears are also fans of bubble baths. I'm hoping Audubon will get a bubble machine and blow bubbles into their habitat to see how the bears respond to those!
