There are few things scarier for a pet owner than the thought of your fur baby going missing. I would know--I've been there! The one time our rescue dog decided to take himself for a walk, my family and I panicked, but within just a few minutes, we went from imagining the worst to carrying him back home.

After that brief scare, I can empathize with any and every pet owner who's had an animal go missing. That's why one twenty-second video from a cat dad's front door camera recently had me reaching for the tissues! Adam Matteo shared the emotional moment his indoor cat, Oscar, returned home after being accidentally let outside, and I'm not the only one who can feel his relief.

Welcome home, Oscar! This loving cat owner wasn't the only one who felt moved by this heartwarming moment. Nearly 1 million people have seen his TikTok video since he posted it, and every single one can agree on one thing: home is the only place where Oscar belongs.

A commenter named Jordan made everyone laugh when they wrote from Oscar's point of view: "He said, 'I am not for the streets. I repeat, I am not for the streets." No kidding! This is an indoor cat through and through, and he desperately wanted to get home to his dad and his life of luxury.

I can only imagine the royal treatment he's been receiving since emerging from the bushes! I'm sure Oscar's dad hardly lets him out of his sight, and I don't blame him one bit. It was a total fluke that the white and orange cat was let outside accidentally, but there's plenty cat owners can do to ensure something like that doesn't happen again.

Keeping Indoor Cats Indoors

It may sound obvious, but the best thing you can do to keep indoor cats indoors is to give them zero opportunities to go outside. Don't leave your front door open unless your cat is secure in another room, and make sure all guests know that your cat is supposed to stay inside. Cats are expert climbers, too, so you'll have to make sure all windows are closed or screened in.

An enclosed catio can be a great alternative to letting cats outside, as this keeps them safe while still letting them enjoy all the sunshine and bird watching their little hearts desire. Easygoing, social cats may be open to walking on a leash, too, so indoor cats will always have chances to enjoy the outside, too.

We're so happy you're safe, Oscar! Thanks for sharing your story!
