Costco Just Quietly Brought Back the Holiday Staple That Sells Out in No Time

Costco employees have urged me to “buy two” at check-out.

If there’s one thing we know about Costco, it’s that they get the holiday party started early. It wouldn’t be uncommon to see Valentine’s Day candy out on January 1 or spot Halloween costumes on the racks in July. When you shop the big box store, you’ll never enter a holiday season unprepared.

So, although it might seem far too early to be talking about eggnog, we have no choice. Why? Because Costco’s Traditional Holiday Eggnog Liqueur is here, and this seasonal drink is so popular, it’s been known to sell out well before December. In fact, if you don’t buy it now, you might have to spend your holidays without it.

Costco's Holiday Eggnog Liqueur Is Back

I was first introduced to the Kirkland Signature spiked eggnog a few years ago when my mom, seeing customers buy the specialty cocktail by the cart-full, decided to bring home a bottle of the booze on her shopping trip. Luckily, its long shelf life kept it fresh for several months, and after we shared the first round on Christmas Eve, it was designated a new family fave.

The eggnog is decadently tasty, with a sweet-to-spice ratio that’s just right. It has the rich, creamy flavor you love from traditional eggnog with the belly-warming bite of a good brandy. It makes you want to cozy up by the fire, put on some holiday tunes, and share stories into the night. 

In the years since, my family hasn’t gone a Christmas without it. So, I’ve been trained to keep it on my shopping radar in the early holiday months—and I mean as early as September. Because once the seasonal drink sells out, it's gone for the year.

The Kirkland Signature beverage uses real cream and French vanilla for a smooth, rich flavor a mix of whiskey, spiced rum, and brandy for a real kick of holiday spirit. Although it has a high alcohol content at 14.75% ABV, it's well-balanced and doesn't have an overly alcohol-forward flavor. The premade, creamy cocktail is all too convenient to drink over a glass of ice, and it pairs perfectly with any holiday cookie platter.

However, because of its boozy ingredients, this specialty drink is only available in the Costco liquor store in select states. The 1.75-liter bottle varies in price depending on the state but is available for $11.49 at many locations. A similar wine-based eggnog cocktail is also available from Kirkland, and that version (with a 13.9% ABV) is available in the main warehouse.

If you’ve never had this eggnog before, I’d urge you to pick up at least one bottle on your way out of Costco this week. And if you have, I bet you're already running out to the store to stock up on the holiday staple.
