Dutch Boy’s 2025 Color of the Year Is a Dynamic, Sea-Inspired Blue

The classic, matte blue is reminiscent of a seafaring tradition where maps with large swaths of blue led the way.

We're well over halfway through the year, which means style forecasters and trend analysts alike have their keen eyes set on 2025—and that includes paint brands declaring the color trends you'll see everywhere within the next year.

Dutch Boy Paints has announced Mapped Blue as its One-Coat Color of the Year for 2025 along with its full Color Trends Forecast for 2025, which depicts a future full of well-being, longevity, and sustainability—representing a shift in values the brand has seen particularly among millennials and Gen Z.

"Amid rising cost-of-living concerns and the growing urgency of the climate crisis, consumers are increasingly drawn to purchases that stand the test of time, both functionally and aesthetically," Lisbeth Parada, color marketing manager for Dutch Boy Paints, tells Better Homes & Gardens. "This shift reflects a deeper change in values, with a desire for purpose, connection and a ‘less-is-more’ approach to life. As a result, colors that offer comfort, evoke familiarity and promote simplicity are a great complementary to a timeless aesthetic.”

And as Dutch Boy's 2025 Color of the Year pick, Mapped Blue aims to do just that, equally balancing stylish and traditional. Indoors, it's designed to enhance patterns and decor and pairs beautifully with wood tones, brass accents, and both cool and warm complementary shades. On a home's exterior, it expands on natural elements of stone, brick, and woodwork.

The shade is light and airy with yellow undertones, meaning you can use it on entire walls or as an accent. Parada recommends incorporating Mapped Blue in a subtle and unexpected way, like as window trim.

Beyond the 2025 Color of the Year, the Dutch Boy also released a curation of three other one-coat color palettes to pair with Mapped Blue:

• The Tailored Palette includes White, Timber, and Anchored Blue, all which "effortlessly [blend] traditional and modern elements."

• The Essential Palette "embraces functional simplicity" with Antique White, Stemmed Green, and Smoked Copper paired with Mapped Blue, of course.

• The Captivate Palette includes White Linen, Honey Hive, and Midnight Bliss along with Mapped Blue to "create an immersive environment ideal for connectivity, escapism and relaxation."

These curated palettes make creating spaces with Dutch Boy's 2025 Color of the Year more simple, more enticing, and, ultimately, more fun.
