There’s a new beauty brand announced every day—and I’ve got the emails to prove it. However, it’s rare when the beauty biz gets to buzz about a relaunch. Once a brand winds down, it’s difficult to stage a triumphant return, but that’s just what Dolce & Gabbana has done.

The luxury Italian fashion house initially launched its cosmetics collection back in 2009 but later sold that side of the business to Shiseido from 2016 to 2021. Any true beauty buff would tell you that beyond D&G’s impressive fragrances, the makeup offerings weren’t particularly captivating over the past decade.

Well, folks, that’s all about to change thanks to an exciting new lineup of products including: a skin tint, liquid lipsticks, mascara, blurring powder, primer, eyeliners, blush-meets-eye shadow duos, face-and-eye compacts, a 12-color eye palette, and, of course, a lip oil.

D&G believes that “makeup by definition is color and joy—values that the brand has always embraced.” I reached out to Jake Warden, Dolce & Gabbana beauty global makeup expert, to ask him what the world can expect from this reimagination of D&G Beauty. Here’s what he had to say...

Why is this relaunch so important?

“These days, people want makeup that stands out and have high quality performance,” Warden says. “There was a point where consumers in this industry would buy anything that was suggested—and now people are more mindful of what they are applying to their bodies. The relaunch encourages people to explore the wider world of luxury beauty and have the chance to be their own makeup artist. Dolce&Gabbana really enhanced a new standard for creativity and quality in luxury beauty.”

What sets D&G makeup apart from other luxury brands?

“The products have strong pigments and are super easy to use, so they work great for both pros and beginners,” Warden told Cosmo. “Also, specific products have skin benefits—unlike other luxury brands, who I feel tend to play more safe and focus just on makeup fundamentals.”

Warden went on to explain that his favorite products are the eyeliners that have a “one-swipe formula” that he believes are unmatched when it comes to the competition out in the market. He also mentioned that the skin tints are packed with skin-perfecting ingredients like blueberries and boast 24-hour hydration.

What D&G makeup products are available?

Bergamot Glow Primer: Your first step to a flawless look should be a dope primer and this one that’s packed with hyaluronic acid, seawater, and Italian Bergamot will get you there. The formula improves texture, radiance, and hydration for 24 hours.

Blueberry Nutri-Tint: 30 hues in a super-buildable formula that’s infused with Italian blueberries that help to improve skin radiance. I love the glowy finish.

Fig Skin Perfector: Grab this if you’re looking for a shine control blurring powder. There’s one universal shade, but it works great for a range of skin tones.

Mint Oil Lip Plumper: I love a good tingle and this one does just that with Italian mint extract for a refreshing and painless plumping effect. There’s also a PH color-reviving agent that enhances your natural lip color. But it’s the vitamin E that really nourishes your pout.

Cheeks&Eyes Match: I’ve used this blush and eyeshadow powder almost every day. It’s a great multitasking compact that comes in six shades. Plus, it’s packed with the nourishing benefits of Italian raspberries and grapes.

Face&Eyes Match: This one is a bronzer and eyeshadow powder that’s also enriched with Italian raspberries and grapes. It acts as a great base to work to create a monochromatic look and comes in five shades.

Everlift Luminizer: If you’re looking for a highlighter with a soft halo effect, then this is the one for you. The illuminating powder works beautifully to execute a glowy and glam look.

Everkiss Liquid Lip: I’m confident you’ll find a color to fall in love with in this collection of no-transfer, soft matte lippies. There are nine nudes, pinks, corals, and iconic reds to choose from. I’m a “Respect” girlie, which is a rosy pink.

Everfull XL Mascara: It’s all about lifting and volumizing with this 35-hour-wear formulation. Right now, it only comes in Total Black, but I have a feeling there are more hues on the way.

Eye Dare You! Palette: This bb is limited edition so you’ll have to act fast. The 12-color compact is filled with mattes, metallics, biodegradable glitters, 3D pigments and a two-in-one gel.

That’s My Line! 24H Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner: This smudge-proof, humidity-proof is enhanced with Italian Blueberry Extract and D-Panthe. It comes in seven killer colors!

How the brand’s fragrance business plays into the relaunch

Fragrance has always been very important to the brand. Currently, D&G is leaning into the strength of its legendary scent Light Blue. The perfume has remained one of the best-selling fragrances in the world since its launch back in 2001. The newest addition to the collection Light Blue Summer Vibes (which debuted July 2023) continues the legacy of D&G “capturing the essence of Italy and its culture,” explains Olivier Cresp, the renowned perfumer who created the juice. "I am particularly captivated by Sicilian Lemon essential oil. Olfactively speaking, it is fresh and sparkling. Conceptually, it brings positivity and happiness. It feels like a ray of sunshine on a summer day, even though it is harvested during the winter.”

What’s next for D&G beauty?

The brand has big plans to expand (and quickly) with a focus on fragrances and makeup. At the moment, D&G has 80 products between the two categories and plans on scaling that to 350 by 2025. But that’s not all: The company also hopes to launch a line of skincare in the first few months of next year. Formulations will center around “aging-well” rather than anti-aging.

My thoughts on the comeback...

I really love to see big brands take back the reins after licensing or selling away parts of their company. Who else can execute the brand’s vision and DNA better than them? D&G has long been in the canon of luxury fashion houses that are praised for their distinct and coveted presence. The opportunity to build iconic products through the company’s legendary lens is going to be exciting to watch...and use.

When it comes to the products, I’m particularly into the Eye Dare You! Palette that houses 12 of the most insanely hued shadows that give any look an instant upgrade. There are a few neutrals that act as perfect bases and crease colors, while the rest of the palette packs a punch with berries, blues, metallics, and lots of sparkle. And if you love dope packaging like me, you might want to snag this palette strictly for the oversized D&G design with a glitzy gold toned chain. So stunning!

The That’s My Line! waterproof eyeliners are all showstoppers. I’ve worn the pink one (called Xoxo) and I could hardly make it through the day without someone stopping me to admire my boldly lined eyes.

IMO, the hero products will be the liquid lipsticks, the eyeshadows and liners as well as the blushes. I’m looking forward to seeing more shades in the skin tint collection as the products evolve. But so far so good!
