This Girl Breaks Down the Price of Bama Rush Outfits — and One Totals to $11,000!

The outfit included a Zara shirt, $390 Dior ring and $1,940 Cartier Love Ring

The girls of the University of Alabama are bringing their A-game with their rush week outfits!

Across Bama Rush TikTok, potential new members (PNMs) and sorority members are showcasing their looks for each round of the sorority recruitment process, which runs from Aug. 12 to Aug. 20. The different stages of rush for which new members must prepare outfits include Convocation, Philanthropy, Sisterhood, Preference and Bid Day.

However, many of these outfits come with a hefty price tag. On Instagram, user @destinee.moreh is breaking down the cost of some PNMs' outfits. In one video, she calculates the total cost of a PNM's outfit at $11,000, which includes a Zara shirt, a Dior Ring for $390, a Cartier Love Ring for $1,940, and another Cartier Ring costing $1,320. She also paired the look with earrings from Claire's and shoes from Shein.

"When she said Claire's, I thought ohh, this will be a reasonable amount 🥴," one person commented on the post. "I’d never leave the house with an outfit that expensive; someone’s gonna rob me lol," someone else replied.

"Honestly she’s onto something, buy good quality clothes but don’t cheap out on jewelry," another comment read.

In another video, she breaks down one outfit featuring a Lululemon set, Jimmy Choo sneakers from "last year" for $400, a $580 Dior necklace, a Louis Vuitton bracelet and a David Yurman bracelet, both for $395, a $178 bracelet from Tory Burch and a $75 tote bag. She estimates the total cost of the outfit at $2,332.

"Her closet is probably worth more than my entire family’s combined income," one comment says. "Suddenly I don’t feel so bad spending 20 bucks on a dress," another person writes.

"I wonder if she has a safe for all her jewelry. Assuming she has a lot more than what she’s wearing, is she keeping all that in a drawer?" another person writes.

Kylan Darnell, who gained viral fame a couple of years ago from her Alabama recruitment process, is also sharing her recruitment outfits from the sorority perspective.

In the breakdown of her Sisterhood Round outfit on Instagram, @destinee.moreh notes her outfit included $450 David Yurman hoop earrings, a $475 David Yurman necklace and a $1,450 David Yurman bracelet. She also wore an additional $895 David Yurman bracelet, a YSL bracelet and another Dior bracelet.

Her blue, floral dress she wore was from Bronx and Banco, which retails on Revolve for $695, and her Christian Louboutin Kate Pumps are $795.

"Her breakdown is one of my faves. Love her dress!" a comment says. "So was the whole point of Bama rush just to show off what they have so they can get into their sororities or whatever better?" another reads.

Someone else says, "It’s scary how expensive this all is."

According to the Alabama Panhellenic Association's (APA) 132-page 2024 Greek Chic Recruitment Guide PNMs must adhere to a specific dress code for each round.

For Convocation and Open House, which take place on the first day of rush week, the dress code is "casual." During the Philanthropy Round, spanning the following two days, PNMs are provided with two philanthropy t-shirts, which can be paired with shorts or skorts and comfortable shoes.

Sisterhood Round, the second-to-last round, the APA recommends wearing a nicer dress with wedges or heels. The final round, Preference Day, is the most formal, and girls are encouraged to wear a nice dress and heels, but not something too tight.

For the last day, the APA advises PMNs to wear comfortable clothing. "You will [be] sitting in Bryant Denny Stadium and running home in the heat so dress in something comfy and cool!" the APA says.
