Horses are so much more sensitive than we give them credit for. Like a horse online who was shook when he heard their bestie's whinny one more time. He recognized him! And seeing the animal's connection to his pal had so many people in their feelings online.

We don't know what convinced his mama to play the horse's whinny. But when she did something amazing happened.

The woman, who goes by @denny_thebay online, was sitting by her horse's side when she decided to put the special recording on.

"I played a video of my horse whinnying that was sold and Sunny was left behind," she explained in the text overlay. "This was his reaction to [the first time] hearing him since he left," she added.

In the clip, Sunny immediately recognized the voice he was hearing. He must've thought his friend was close by.

"I'm not crying, you are," his mama wrote in the video's caption.

Can Horses Recognize Voices?

Horses are social creatures. That's why they often live and travel in herds. But a horse's whinny isn't unique, right? Well not exactly.

It's not clear how much horses understand, even in their relationships with humans. Some people believe that horses can clearly tell who their owners are based on appearance and voice. That might be true, but really what horses recognize are the patterns in their day. The human who always brings them their breakfast will quickly imprint themselves on a horse's memory more than someone with long curly hair.

Studies have also shown that horses are able to tell when an audio recording of their owner's voice and their appearance matches. Similarly, horses were also able to tell if they were listening to a recording of another horse they knew, if that horse's appearance matched.

Another thing to consider is that horses have distinct voices from each other. They might sound the same to us, but a horse can tell when another, specific, horse is speaking. They usually communicate through snorts, whinnies, bubbles, or "neigh" sounds. And even the pitch and tone of these noises can express so much of what's going on inside.

These are just a few reasons why we love horses and think they're incredibly special creatures. If you've ever sensed that horses are sensitive beings, then you finally have your answer — yes!
