Julia Roberts Ditches Her Ball Gown for a Chic Suit in New Lancôme Fragrance Commercial: All the Details!

The 56-year-old actress stars in the Damien Chazelle-directed ad to celebrate the launch of La vie est belle L’Elixir

Julia Roberts is lending her megawatt smile to Lancôme once again.

The 56-year-old actress is the face of the brand's latest fragrance, La vie est belle L’Elixir. Crafted by Master Perfumers Antoine Maisondieu and Christophe Raynaud (Givaudan), the floral woody gourmand scent is a spin on the original La vie est belle scent.

“A new symbol of floral modernity for this new chapter of La vie est belle,” is how Maisondieu describes L’Elixir via press release. “Behind this fragrance is a desire for softness, for caressing, for reinventing the sensuality of the skin…[via] the addition of a woody violet immersed in an irresistible raspberry liqueur and sprinkled with bitter cocoa.”

Lancôme tapped Academy Award winner Damien Chazelle(La La Land, Whiplash) to direct the cinematic campaign. Shot on 35mm film and composed by Justin Hurwitz (La La Land), the short follows Roberts as, moments before entering a party, she ditches a bright pink ball gown for a chic black suit and escapes to a Parisian rooftop.

"[The film] captures Julia Roberts in a beautifully poetic, defining moment, as she chooses her own path over others’ expectations," the press release reads. "With time magically suspended, Chazelle’s cinematic lens pictures the actress as she gazes out over Paris from the top of the Arc de Triomphe and experiences the exhilaration that comes with being the author of her own story."

The campaign marks the first collaboration between Roberts, who has been a Lancôme Ambassadress for over a decade, and Chazelle. "Working with Damien was a joy," the Oscar winner says via press release. "For me, we fell into a rhythm so quickly and found a common ground of humor that was an unexpected bonus. I hope we get to work together again!’’

Herr, who opted for neutral colors and softly defined eyes, was focused on "letting [Roberts'] natural beauty shine through," she tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"Julia loves her eyeliner. Instead of black I used dark brown eyeliner [24 Hour Drama Liquid Pencil in #2 French Chocolate], which is less severe," Herr continues. "A touch of blush, which is important to enhance a youthful look. The lip color [L’Absolu Rouge Intimate Lipstick in #340 Lovers Whispers] was perfect because it had right pink shade — not too light and not dark."

Normant gave Roberts effortless loose waves, so that her hair could "move nicely and feel natural and a bit undone."

He began by applying Serge Normant Instant Dream Big Volumizing Mousse on wet hair, combing through from roots to ends. Next, he blow dried her hair with a round brush and added Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray.

After curling the mid section of her hair with a 1-inch curling iron, Normant finished by brushing through and adding Serge Normant Meta Luxe Hairspray and Meta Sheer Dry Oil.

La vie est belle L’Elixir is available beginning September 2024 at all Lancôme counters and on lancome.com.
