As someone who has always appreciated function a bit more than fashion, I couldn't have been happier to models stomping down the runway in clogs at both the Chloé and Stella McCartney shows for fall/winter 2024. Sure, the shoe has made a slow and steady comeback for a few years now, but this fall, I'm ready to officially enter my clog era. However! With a reputation for a bit of a stiff sole (wooden shoes will do that to ya), I've made it my mission to find the comfiest clogs ever, because—despite what I said earlier—we don't actually have to sacrifice fashion for function or vice versa. In this day and age, we can have both!

First off: Let's start by covering 1) what are clogs and 2) how are they different from mules? Dutch in origin, traditional clogs were made entirely from wood and used as work shoes—but nowadays, clogs can be made with everything from suede and leather to rubber and thermoplastic resin (like jelly shoes!). And while the terms "clog" and "mule" are sometimes used interchangeably for backless, slip-on shoes, clogs tend to be heavier and sturdier with thicker platforms. The more ya know!!
