Karol G is bringing her eccentric fashion sense Stateside with a showstopping appearance on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.

The Colombian singer made a stylish arrival tonight at New York’s UBS Arena, where the 2024 VMAs ceremony is being held. She brought the heat in a sleeveless white dress with a bold flame print, which engulfed most of the garment in fiery yellows and oranges.

While a collar added a sportier, more sophisticated feel to the ensemble, Karol G infused the look with her own playful touch by way of neon yellow accessories. Vibrant PVC heels and a beaded bracelet amped up her red-carpet style, and a silver ring, silver bracelet, and matching chrome manicure offered a bit of bling. She rounded out her look with a sleek, blonde blowout, as well as chiseled eyebrows and a statement-making red lip.

Believe it or not, Karol used to stitch together her own award show looks—but she has come a long way since then. Later in the night, the reggaeton artist performed at the ceremony for her second consecutive year, stepping out onto a set made to look like a beachside bar.

As she performed her hit “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” she did so in a beige swimsuit top overlaid with ripped brown fabric, which trailed over her torso. Matching her wild performance, Karol wore a low-rise pair of cow-hide pants, and doubled-down on the fierce theme with a pair of pointed, yellow crocodile-skin heels. A brown suede belt with silver grommets cinched her look.

Karol is vying for her second Video Music Award, this time for her hit “Mi Ex Tenía Razón,” after winning her first Moon Person last year for best collaboration.

Karol’s latest album, 2023’s Mañana Será Bonito, quickly became one of her most popular today. The title, which translates to Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful, alludes to her own personal journey of working through grief and expansion. “It means that it does not matter what happens today, because everything is going to be okay,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview last year, shortly after the project’s release. “Sometimes we go through hard things, and we are just punching the air like, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ The idea of the title is to embrace the moment.”

Clearly, the singer is making the most of her own moment. Mañana Será Bonito earned her a Grammy—her first—and made her the first woman to win Best Música Urbana Album at the ceremony. If the VMAs are any indication, there are plenty more awards waiting for her.
